Job Title: Process Control Specialist (Power Plants)

Job Summary:

The Process Control Manager is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and optimization of process control systems in power generation facilities. This role involves managing teams, leading large-scale projects, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and aligning control system operations with organizational objectives. The Manager drives innovation, fosters team development, and ensures the reliability and efficiency of systems such as turbines, generators, boilers, SCADA, and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians responsible for process control systems.
  • Define team objectives, allocate resources, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members, fostering professional growth and collaboration.

System Oversight and Optimization:

  • Oversee the operation, calibration, and optimization of process control systems, including SCADA, DCS, and safety mechanisms.
  • Ensure reliable functionality of turbine, generator, and boiler control systems.
  • Develop and implement strategies to upgrade and enhance legacy control systems for improved performance and efficiency.

Project Management:

  • Manage large-scale projects involving the installation, commissioning, or retrofitting of process control systems.
  • Develop project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure quality and safety in project execution.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all process control activities comply with industry standards (e.g., IEC, ISA) and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency shutdown validations.
  • Oversee the implementation of safety-critical systems and ensure adherence to environmental and safety protocols.

Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities on process control matters.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on system performance, project progress, and compliance metrics to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure process control systems align with operational objectives and client needs.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to enhance process control operations.
  • Drive innovation by introducing advanced tools, predictive maintenance techniques, and optimization strategies.
  • Stay updated on industry trends to propose and adopt best practices and solutions.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Generation Control Systems: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of turbine, generator, and boiler control systems.
  • SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS): Manage the configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of SCADA/DCS platforms.
  • Thermal and Nuclear Plant Control Systems: Lead commissioning and maintenance of control systems specific to thermal and nuclear power plants.
  • Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Ensure the compliance, reliability, and readiness of safety-critical systems.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of process control systems, including SCADA, DCS, and advanced control logic programming.
  • Proficiency in industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and HART.
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Expertise in safety regulations, risk management, and emergency response protocols.
  • Analytical and diagnostic skills for optimizing control system performance and resolving complex issues.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced certifications in SCADA, DCS, or project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in process control systems, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Proven track record in managing large teams and delivering complex projects on time and within budget.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency in advanced diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, thermal cameras, and vibration analyzers.
  • Expertise in software platforms like Siemens TIA Portal, Honeywell Experion, ABB DCS, or Yokogawa CENTUM.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools for monitoring and improving system performance.
