Job Title: Process Control Specialist (Power Plants)

Job Summary:

The Junior Process Control Specialist is responsible for executing and supporting the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of process control systems in power generation facilities. This role involves monitoring and optimizing systems such as turbines, generators, boilers, SCADA, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and safety mechanisms. The specialist works on routine tasks with minimal supervision and assists senior engineers in implementing control system improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

System Operation and Maintenance:

  • Monitor and maintain process control systems, ensuring reliable performance of turbines, generators, and boilers.
  • Perform routine inspections and calibrations of SCADA and DCS platforms to ensure seamless operation.
  • Assist in implementing system adjustments to improve efficiency and reliability.

Testing and Troubleshooting:

  • Conduct system tests and diagnostics to identify and resolve basic control system issues.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions for recurring faults.
  • Troubleshoot safety and emergency shutdown systems to ensure compliance and operational readiness.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and protocols during system maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in risk assessments and assist in implementing safety mitigation measures for control systems.
  • Conduct periodic testing of emergency shutdown systems to validate their functionality.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed logs of system operations, calibration settings, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Prepare technical reports on system performance and identified issues for internal review.
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with regulatory and organizational standards.

Collaboration and Development:

  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to align process control activities with project goals.
  • Support system upgrades and commissioning activities under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance knowledge of advanced control systems and safety protocols.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Generation Control Systems: Operate and maintain control systems for turbines, generators, and boilers.
  • SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS): Monitor and optimize SCADA and DCS platforms for reliability.
  • Thermal and Nuclear Plant Control Systems: Assist in maintaining and testing control systems specific to thermal and nuclear plants.
  • Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Troubleshoot and validate safety-critical systems to ensure compliance.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Proficient understanding of process control systems and their integration with power generation equipment.
  • Familiarity with SCADA and DCS platforms, including basic control logic and interlocks.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and HART.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve system issues.
  • Awareness of safety regulations and best practices in power generation operations.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications or training in SCADA, DCS, or process control systems are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in process control systems or related power generation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with testing, calibrating, or maintaining control systems in an industrial environment is preferred.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency with tools such as multimeters, loop calibrators, and signal generators.
  • Familiarity with software platforms like Siemens TIA Portal, Honeywell Experion, ABB DCS, or Yokogawa CENTUM.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently while adhering to safety and quality standards.
  • Commitment to learning advanced process control systems and contributing to operational excellence.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and participate in on-site activities.
