Job Title: Process Control Engineer (Water Treatment)

Job Summary:

The Junior Process Control Engineer (Water Treatment) will assist in the operation, monitoring, and optimization of water treatment processes, focusing on ensuring water quality and regulatory compliance. The role involves supporting the management and control of water purification systems, monitoring key water quality parameters, and assisting senior engineers in maintaining and troubleshooting control systems used in water treatment plants. This is an entry-level position that provides the opportunity to develop skills in process control, automation, and water treatment technologies while ensuring the effective operation of water treatment systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Water Treatment Systems Monitoring:

    • Assist in the operation and monitoring of water treatment systems, including filtration, chemical dosing, disinfection, and pumping systems.
    • Help monitor key water quality parameters such as pH, chlorine levels, turbidity, and temperature to ensure they remain within the required standards for safe drinking water.
    • Assist in collecting data from various systems, ensuring the accuracy of measurements and data recording.
  2. Process Control System Support:

    • Assist in the operation and troubleshooting of process control systems, including PLCs and SCADA, used to monitor and control water treatment processes.
    • Support the configuration and calibration of control systems to maintain optimal water quality and treatment process efficiency.
    • Assist in diagnosing and addressing minor issues within control systems and instrumentation in collaboration with senior engineers.
  3. Water Quality Monitoring and Reporting:

    • Support water quality monitoring efforts by collecting and analyzing data related to pH, chlorine, turbidity, and other relevant water quality parameters.
    • Help maintain accurate records of water quality data, ensuring that all measurements are properly documented for regulatory compliance.
    • Assist in preparing water quality reports for internal records and regulatory bodies.
  4. Regulatory Compliance and Safety Support:

    • Ensure water treatment processes adhere to environmental regulations and water quality standards.
    • Help ensure that all water treatment systems comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including quality monitoring and reporting requirements.
    • Participate in safety audits and support the implementation of safety protocols within water treatment facilities.
  5. Troubleshooting and Maintenance Assistance:

    • Provide basic troubleshooting support for process control systems, sensors, and other instrumentation.
    • Assist senior engineers with corrective and preventive maintenance of water treatment systems, ensuring minimal downtime and system reliability.
    • Support routine system checks to ensure equipment is functioning correctly and within specification.
  6. Process Optimization Support:

    • Help analyze data to identify inefficiencies in water treatment processes and assist in implementing improvements.
    • Collaborate with senior engineers to implement process optimizations, such as reducing chemical consumption, improving filtration efficiency, or optimizing system operations.
  7. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work with plant operators, engineers, and maintenance teams to ensure effective and efficient water treatment system operation.
    • Assist in providing support and training to operators and maintenance staff on system operation, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure water quality standards are met and systems are maintained.
  8. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously develop technical knowledge and skills in water treatment processes, process control systems, and industry standards through training and hands-on experience.
    • Participate in on-the-job learning, attend workshops, and stay updated with advancements in water treatment technologies and regulatory requirements.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Water Quality Monitoring: Support the monitoring and analysis of key water quality parameters (pH, chlorine, turbidity, etc.).
  • Process Control Support: Assist with the operation, calibration, and troubleshooting of control systems used in water treatment plants.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to water quality and environmental regulations and support compliance efforts.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Help with data collection, reporting, and maintaining water quality records for regulatory compliance.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of water treatment processes (e.g., filtration, disinfection, chemical dosing) and their role in water purification.
  • Familiarity with process control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and instrumentation.
  • Understanding of water quality parameters (e.g., pH, chlorine, turbidity) and their significance in water treatment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic system issues and assist with equipment maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and assist with resolving water treatment system issues.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and report findings.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Any relevant coursework or certifications related to water treatment, process control, or environmental compliance is a plus.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in water treatment, process control, or automation. Internships, academic projects, or hands-on training in water treatment or process control systems is beneficial.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with SCADA, PLCs, and water quality monitoring instruments is beneficial.
  • Basic understanding of data collection and analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL).
  • Exposure to water treatment systems or related equipment is an advantage.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong willingness to learn and develop technical expertise in water treatment and process control systems.
  • Ability to work effectively under the guidance of senior engineers and collaborate with team members.
  • A proactive approach to ensuring water quality standards and regulatory compliance.
