Job Title: Process Control Engineer
Job Summary:
The Mid-Level Process Control Engineer (Oil & Gas) is responsible for managing and optimizing process control systems, ensuring operational efficiency, and driving system reliability. This role involves independently implementing control strategies, troubleshooting complex issues, and contributing to process improvements. The Mid-Level Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams and ensures compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Control System Implementation and Maintenance:
- Design, configure, and maintain Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- Develop and implement control logic, including advanced PID tuning and process automation strategies.
- Conduct regular maintenance and updates for process control systems to ensure optimal performance.
Troubleshooting and Optimization:
- Diagnose and resolve complex control system issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring operational continuity.
- Analyze process data to identify inefficiencies and implement advanced optimization techniques.
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to improve system performance and process control strategies.
Process Improvement:
- Evaluate and refine control strategies to enhance system efficiency, safety, and reliability.
- Recommend and implement upgrades to hardware and software for process control systems.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by integrating new technologies and methodologies.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain detailed records of system modifications, configurations, and performance analyses.
- Prepare technical documentation, including functional design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards such as API, ISA, HAZOP, and SIL requirements.
Team Collaboration and Support:
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and technicians.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and project management, to ensure seamless project execution.
- Contribute to training programs for team members to enhance technical expertise.
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to safety protocols and organizational guidelines during all activities.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with industry safety standards.
- Participate in HAZOP reviews and implement recommendations to improve system safety.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Proficient in process control systems, including DCS, PLC, and SCADA platforms.
- Advanced knowledge of control strategies, such as PID tuning, loop optimization, and model-based control.
- Strong understanding of instrumentation and process equipment in oil and gas operations.
- Experience with industrial protocols such as Modbus, HART, and OPC.
- Analytical skills for troubleshooting and process improvement, with a focus on data-driven solutions.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Certifications in process control or industrial automation (e.g., ISA Certified Control Systems Technician) are desirable.
Key Focus Areas:
- Process Control in Drilling, Refining, and Extraction: Managing and optimizing process control systems to enhance efficiency, reliability, and performance in drilling, refining, and extraction operations.
- SCADA Systems for Pipeline Management: Overseeing the integration, configuration, and troubleshooting of process control systems linked to SCADA systems, ensuring smooth pipeline monitoring and control.
- Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Leading efforts to maintain and improve safety and emergency shutdown systems, ensuring they are fully operational and meet safety standards.
- Environmental and Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that process control systems are designed, implemented, and operated in full compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements, conducting audits, and managing corrective actions.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in process control engineering, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
- Proven ability to independently manage control system tasks and optimize processes.
Tools and Technologies:
- Experience with control system platforms such as Siemens PCS 7, Honeywell Experion, ABB 800xA, or Rockwell Automation.
- Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, MATLAB, LabVIEW) for process analysis.
- Knowledge of advanced analytics and data visualization tools is an advantage.
