Job Title: Process Control Engineer

Job Summary:

The Junior Process Control Engineer (Oil & Gas) is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of process control systems in oil and gas operations. This role involves performing routine troubleshooting, configuring basic control loops, and ensuring the reliability of process control systems. The Junior Engineer works under minimal supervision, contributing to operational efficiency and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Control System Implementation and Maintenance:

  • Assist in the design and configuration of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of process control instruments and sensors.
  • Support the integration of new control systems with existing infrastructure.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

  • Monitor process control system performance and identify deviations or inefficiencies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic system issues, escalating complex problems to senior engineers.
  • Perform diagnostic tests and implement corrective actions to maintain system reliability.

Process Optimization:

  • Collect and analyze process data to identify opportunities for improving control strategies.
  • Implement basic control loop optimizations under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Contribute to enhancing system efficiency and reducing operational costs.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of system modifications, testing results, and maintenance activities.
  • Prepare reports on system performance, highlighting issues and improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation standards and project requirements.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and ensure compliance with industry standards such as HAZOP, SIL, and API.
  • Participate in safety and compliance training to stay updated on best practices.
  • Support internal and external audits related to process control systems.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and engineering, to support project goals.
  • Provide technical assistance to technicians and other team members as needed.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Proficient understanding of process control systems, including DCS, PLC, and SCADA.
  • Knowledge of control strategies, including PID tuning and loop optimization.
  • Familiarity with oil and gas instrumentation and process equipment.
  • Basic programming skills for control systems (e.g., ladder logic, function block diagram).
  • Analytical skills for troubleshooting and process improvement.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certification or training in process control systems or industrial automation is desirable.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Process Control in Drilling, Refining, and Extraction: Assisting in the setup, calibration, and monitoring of process control systems to support efficient operations in drilling, refining, and extraction processes.
  • SCADA Systems for Pipeline Management: Supporting the configuration, testing, and maintenance of process control systems integrated with SCADA systems to ensure proper pipeline monitoring and control.
  • Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Assisting in the testing, calibration, and optimization of safety and emergency shutdown systems to ensure their functionality during critical situations.
  • Environmental and Regulatory Compliance: Helping ensure process control systems are compliant with environmental regulations and industry standards, contributing to inspections and reports when necessary.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience in process control engineering or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with control system installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with control system platforms like Siemens PCS 7, Honeywell Experion, or Rockwell Automation.
  • Knowledge of simulation and analysis tools such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, or AspenTech.
  • Experience with data acquisition and HMI systems is an advantage.
