Job Title: Process Automation and Control Engineer

Job Summary:

The Junior Process Automation and Control Engineer is responsible for assisting in the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of process automation systems used in industrial settings. This role focuses on supporting the design, programming, and troubleshooting of automated systems, including PLCs, SCADA systems, sensors, and other control systems. The Junior Engineer will work closely with senior engineers to improve the efficiency and reliability of automation systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Process Automation and Control Systems:

    • Assist in the installation, configuration, and setup of process automation systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and sensors.
    • Help with programming and modifying control logic for PLC systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
    • Support system integration efforts to ensure smooth communication between different automation systems and components.
  2. System Monitoring and Data Collection:

    • Assist in monitoring the performance of automated systems in real-time, ensuring they are operating efficiently.
    • Collect and analyze operational data from process automation systems, including PLCs and SCADA systems.
    • Assist in generating reports on system performance, downtime, and areas for improvement.
  3. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

    • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on process control systems, including PLCs, sensors, and other automation components.
    • Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with automation systems and processes to minimize downtime.
    • Work with senior engineers to implement corrective actions and preventive maintenance strategies to improve system reliability.
  4. Process Optimization:

    • Help identify areas for optimization within automated systems to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize operational costs.
    • Assist in optimizing process control systems and ensuring that they meet operational goals.
    • Support the testing of new control strategies and configurations to improve system performance.
  5. Compliance and Documentation:

    • Assist in ensuring that all process automation systems meet safety and regulatory standards.
    • Help maintain accurate records of system configurations, updates, and changes for compliance purposes.
    • Support the preparation of documentation related to system performance, maintenance logs, and operational reports.
  6. Collaboration and Support:

    • Work closely with senior engineers, operators, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth operation of automation systems.
    • Provide technical support to operators and maintenance staff regarding automation systems, including troubleshooting and best practices.
    • Participate in team meetings to discuss progress, system performance, and process improvements.
  7. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously develop technical skills related to process automation, control systems, and industrial instrumentation.
    • Participate in on-the-job training and workshops to enhance knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA systems, and process control techniques.
    • Stay updated on new technologies and best practices in process automation and control systems.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of process automation systems, including PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial sensors.
  • Familiarity with control logic programming (e.g., ladder logic) and process control concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to assist with troubleshooting and resolving system issues.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document system performance and changes accurately.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Basic coursework or training in PLC programming, SCADA systems, or industrial automation is a plus.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in process automation, control systems, or industrial instrumentation. Internships, academic projects, or hands-on training in automation systems are beneficial.
  • Exposure to PLC programming or SCADA systems through coursework or practical projects is advantageous.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with PLC programming software (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000).
  • Basic understanding of SCADA systems (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition) and industrial instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of process monitoring and data logging tools for performance analysis is a plus.

  • Eagerness to learn and develop technical expertise in process automation and control systems.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and follow instructions from senior engineers.
  • Willingness to work in industrial or manufacturing environments and engage in hands-on work.
  • Good time management and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
