Powertrain Integration Engineer

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Senior Powertrain Integration Engineer leads the complete integration of internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, or electric powertrain systems into the vehicle platform. This role ensures full system-level compatibility and optimization of performance, packaging, NVH, safety, thermal management, and manufacturability. The senior engineer provides technical leadership in concept development, cross-functional coordination, issue resolution, and mentoring junior team members throughout the product development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead powertrain system packaging and integration from concept through production.

  • Define and manage key technical requirements and interface specifications across systems.

  • Drive trade-off studies between performance, packaging, weight, cost, and serviceability.

  • Collaborate with design, CAE, thermal, chassis, and electrical teams to ensure robust integration.

  • Lead resolution of complex integration issues discovered during design, prototyping, and testing phases.

  • Review and approve 3D models, system layouts, interface drawings, and installation procedures.

  • Support development of DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, and validation plans.

  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and coordinate supplier technical deliverables.

Key Focus Areas:

  • End-to-End Powertrain Packaging & Integration Leadership
(Engine/motor, transmission, driveshafts, mounts, and thermal components)

  • Cross-Functional Systems Interface Management
(Chassis, body, cooling, electrical, exhaust, fuel systems, and wiring harnesses)

  • Thermal and NVH Optimization
(Isolate noise/vibration paths; manage airflow and heat rejection within constraints)

  • Design for Manufacturability and Serviceability
(Lead efforts to simplify installation, service access, and minimize tooling complexity)

  • Global Regulatory Compliance and Safety Standards
(Ensure designs meet emissions, crash, noise, and certification requirements)

  • Technical Reviews and Issue Resolution
(Lead design reviews, root cause analyses, and change management processes)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Mechatronics Engineering.

  • 7+ years of experience in automotive powertrain or vehicle integration roles.

  • Strong CAD proficiency (CATIA, NX, or equivalent) with deep knowledge of system packaging.

  • Proven track record in resolving complex integration challenges across multiple vehicle platforms.

  • Hands-on experience with prototype builds, validation testing, and design optimization.

  • Excellent technical leadership, cross-functional communication, and project coordination skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with electric powertrain (EDU, battery integration, thermal loops).

  • Exposure to performance or commercial vehicle platforms.

  • Familiarity with PLM systems, release processes, and global product development cycles.

  • Knowledge of safety-critical interfaces (e.g., HV components, crash structure integration).
