Powertrain Integration Engineer

Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Powertrain Integration Engineer assists in the development, packaging, and integration of powertrain systems (ICE, hybrid, or electric) into the vehicle platform. This role supports senior engineers in coordinating with design, validation, manufacturing, and CAE teams to ensure seamless integration of the powertrain system, meeting all performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support packaging studies for powertrain components (engine, motor, transmission, mounts, cooling systems) within vehicle architecture.

  • Assist in 2D/3D CAD reviews and layout analysis for clearances, serviceability, and manufacturability.

  • Help manage interface requirements between powertrain and vehicle systems (chassis, electrical, HVAC, exhaust, etc.).

  • Participate in design reviews and document issues and actions.

  • Support DV/PV (design and production validation) test preparation and prototype builds.

  • Assist in resolving basic integration issues found during testing or assembly.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to track and implement design changes.


Key Focus Areas:

  • Powertrain Layout and Packaging Support
    (Engine/motor/transmission mount points, driveline alignment, thermal clearances)

  • Interface Management
    (Coordinate fitment with chassis, cooling, electrical, and body systems)

  • Prototype Build Support
    (Provide integration inputs, support issue resolution during builds)

  • Basic CAD and Documentation
    (Mark-up of integration drawings, clearances, packaging reports)

  • Assembly Feasibility and Service Access Considerations
    (Review for ease of assembly and maintenance)

  • Support for Testing and Validation Prep
    (Track issues, help set up instrumentation for integration tests)


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Mechatronics Engineering.

  • 0–2 years of relevant internship or project experience in automotive/powertrain systems.

  • Familiarity with powertrain components and vehicle architecture.

  • Basic understanding of CAD (CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks preferred).

  • Strong interest in vehicle systems engineering and integration.

  • Good communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.


Preferred Skills:

  • Exposure to engine/motor layout, mount tuning, or thermal management systems.

  • Experience in student projects or internships involving powertrain or vehicle builds.

  • Awareness of regulatory compliance factors related to powertrain packaging.

  • Familiarity with DFMEA, DVP&R, or basic systems engineering tools.
