Job Title: Power Plant Operator
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Power Plant Operator to join our team and take the lead in the operation, maintenance, and optimization of our power plant systems. In this role, you will oversee the daily operations of critical plant equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems. You will lead troubleshooting efforts, ensure regulatory compliance, and implement continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, you will mentor junior and mid-level operators, ensuring that plant operations run smoothly and efficiently while maintaining the highest safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Power Plant Operations:
- Oversee and control the operation of the plant systems, including boilers, turbines, generators, and associated equipment.
- Make real-time adjustments to operational settings (e.g., pressure, temperature, flow) to maintain safe, efficient, and optimal system performance.
- Coordinate plant operations during startup, shutdown, and transition phases, ensuring the safe operation of all equipment.
- Ensure the integration and smooth operation of all plant systems, coordinating with other departments (e.g., maintenance, engineering, safety) to meet production and performance goals.
Advanced Troubleshooting and Repair:
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex mechanical, electrical, and control system failures, utilizing diagnostic tools, manuals, and industry best practices.
- Perform advanced diagnostic analysis of plant equipment malfunctions, working closely with engineering and maintenance teams to implement solutions.
- Supervise and guide operators during emergency situations and equipment breakdowns, ensuring fast recovery and minimal operational downtime.
Preventive Maintenance and Optimization:
- Develop and implement a preventive maintenance (PM) program to improve plant reliability and minimize unplanned downtime.
- Monitor and analyze the performance of plant systems and recommend upgrades, improvements, or adjustments to optimize efficiency and reduce operating costs.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure that all critical equipment is serviced according to the PM schedule and is operating at peak efficiency.
Leadership and Mentorship:
- Supervise and mentor junior and mid-level operators, providing guidance on plant systems, troubleshooting, and operational best practices.
- Train and coach team members on safety procedures, technical skills, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct performance evaluations for team members, providing feedback, recognizing achievements, and addressing areas for improvement.
- Lead by example in promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork within the operations team.
Safety and Compliance Management:
- Ensure all operations comply with internal safety standards, local, state, and federal regulations, and environmental guidelines.
- Lead safety audits and risk assessments, identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions as necessary to maintain a safe working environment.
- Participate in emergency response drills and provide leadership in safety programs and initiatives across the plant.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records on plant operations, including system performance, maintenance logs, and incident reports.
- Prepare and present regular reports to management on plant performance, including equipment status, issues, and recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure that all operational documentation is compliant with regulatory requirements and plant policies.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in plant operations, efficiency, and safety.
- Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in power plant operations and energy production.
- Lead initiatives to incorporate new technologies, automation, and process improvements to enhance plant performance and reduce costs.
Cross-Department Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments such as engineering, maintenance, quality control, and safety to ensure plant systems function as required.
- Provide technical support and expertise to other departments as needed, ensuring all operational goals are met and aligned with plant objectives.

- Ensure the power plant operates in full compliance with safety regulations and industry standards, maintaining a safe work environment at all times.
Continuous Improvement:
- Implement process improvements, system upgrades, and new technologies to drive efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall plant performance.
Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power Plant Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant certifications or technical training in power plant operations, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment is a plus.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience as a power plant operator or in a similar role, with significant exposure to plant systems, equipment, and operations.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting and maintaining complex power plant equipment, including boilers, turbines, and generators.
- Strong understanding of power plant safety protocols, regulations, and industry best practices.
Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of power plant systems, including mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve operational issues.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and supervise a team of operators.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to analyze performance data and recommend improvements.
- Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations and maintain a calm, methodical approach to problem-solving.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Certified Power Plant Operator or similar professional certification.
- Safety certifications such as OSHA, First Aid/CPR, or other relevant qualifications.
- Additional certifications in electrical, mechanical, or industrial systems are a plus.
