Job Title: Power Plant Operator
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Power Plant Operator – Mid-Level to join our team and ensure the efficient operation of our power plant systems. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of plant equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems. As a mid-level operator, you will work more independently, monitor performance, and ensure that all operations comply with safety and regulatory standards. This position also involves mentoring junior operators and assisting with plant optimization and continuous improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Monitoring and Control:
- Operate and monitor power plant systems, including turbines, boilers, generators, and auxiliary equipment, ensuring safe and efficient performance.
- Adjust system parameters such as pressure, temperature, and flow rates to maintain optimal operating conditions.
- Monitor control panels, gauges, and alarms, responding promptly to any abnormalities and taking corrective actions as needed.
Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and control system issues in boilers, turbines, and other equipment.
- Perform and supervise minor repairs and maintenance, coordinating with the maintenance team to address equipment failures and restore optimal functionality.
- Use diagnostic tools and manuals to identify issues and implement corrective actions quickly to minimize downtime.
Preventive Maintenance and System Optimization:
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure the reliable operation of power plant equipment.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, and part replacements.
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to optimize plant systems for improved efficiency, reliability, and reduced operational costs.
Team Leadership and Mentorship:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior operators, helping them develop their technical skills and understanding of plant systems.
- Supervise and assist junior operators during their shift, ensuring they adhere to safety procedures and operational protocols.
- Offer support and training to new employees and provide feedback on their performance.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all power plant operations comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Conduct safety audits, identify potential risks, and implement corrective actions to ensure a safe work environment.
- Participate in safety drills and training programs to maintain high safety standards and readiness for emergency situations.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of plant operations, including system performance, maintenance activities, and any incidents or malfunctions.
- Prepare and submit regular reports to management on plant performance, equipment status, and any operational issues.
- Document all maintenance and troubleshooting activities, ensuring that logs are properly maintained for future reference and compliance purposes.
Continuous Improvement and Process Optimization:
- Identify areas for improvement in plant operations and work with the team to implement process enhancements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
- Assist in the implementation of new technologies, equipment upgrades, or process changes to improve plant performance.
- Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and best practices, applying relevant knowledge to enhance plant operations.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and other departments to address equipment issues, improve processes, and enhance plant performance.
- Work closely with management and other stakeholders to support plant objectives and ensure operational targets are met.

- Mentor junior operators and provide guidance on daily operations, safety protocols, and maintenance best practices.

- Ensure strict adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements, fostering a safe working environment for all plant personnel.
System Optimization and Continuous Improvement:
- Implement improvements to enhance plant efficiency, reduce downtime, and minimize costs.
Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent; a technical degree or certification in Power Plant Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant training or coursework in power generation, industrial systems, or equipment maintenance is a plus.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience as a power plant operator or in a related role in energy production, with a strong understanding of plant systems, operations, and maintenance.
- Hands-on experience with operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining boilers, turbines, and electrical generation systems.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of power plant operations, including mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Experience with diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and resolve equipment issues.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a team and mentor junior staff.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to make quick, informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in using control systems, monitoring software, and plant management systems.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Certifications in power plant operations, such as a Certified Power Plant Operator or similar qualification.
- Safety certifications such as OSHA or First Aid/CPR are beneficial.
- Additional certifications in mechanical, electrical, or industrial systems are a plus.
