Job Title: Power Plant Instrumentation Engineer

Job Summary:

The Fresher Power Plant Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design, installation, and maintenance of instrumentation systems critical to power generation operations. The role focuses on supporting senior engineers in ensuring the functionality and reliability of control systems, such as turbines, generators, boilers, SCADA, and distributed control systems (DCS). The engineer contributes to ensuring compliance with safety protocols and operational efficiency while gaining foundational skills in power plant instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities:

System Installation and Maintenance:

  • Assist in the installation and configuration of instrumentation and control systems for turbines, generators, and boilers.
  • Support maintenance activities to ensure the reliable operation of SCADA and DCS systems in the power plant.
  • Perform basic inspections and tests on control systems, including safety and emergency shutdown systems, under supervision.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

  • Monitor system performance and collect data for analysis by senior engineers.
  • Support troubleshooting activities to identify and resolve issues in control systems and instrumentation.
  • Assist in testing emergency shutdown systems to ensure their readiness and compliance with safety standards.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Learn and follow industry safety protocols and regulations related to power generation systems.
  • Support the implementation of safety and emergency shutdown systems as per organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Document and report any unsafe conditions or system anomalies to supervisors.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed logs of installation, maintenance, and testing activities.
  • Assist in preparing basic technical reports and system documentation for internal review.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with industry standards and regulatory guidelines.

Learning and Development:

  • Attend training sessions to enhance understanding of power generation control systems, including SCADA, DCS, and thermal plant operations.
  • Develop foundational knowledge of turbine, generator, and boiler instrumentation.
  • Gain familiarity with advanced technologies in power plant control systems.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Generation Control Systems: Support the configuration and maintenance of instrumentation for turbines, generators, and boilers.
  • SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS): Assist in monitoring and troubleshooting DCS and SCADA operations to ensure reliability.
  • Thermal and Nuclear Plant Control Systems: Learn the basics of instrumentation and control systems used in thermal and nuclear power plants.
  • Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Participate in the implementation and testing of safety systems to ensure operational compliance and worker safety.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of power plant instrumentation systems, including turbines, generators, and boilers.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, and safety system principles.
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills to assist in identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Awareness of safety regulations and protocols for power plant operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools for reporting and documentation.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Basic certification or training in SCADA, DCS, or power plant operations is advantageous but not mandatory.

Experience:

  • No prior experience required; internships or academic projects related to power plant instrumentation are beneficial.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with basic instrumentation tools, such as multimeters, loop calibrators, and signal generators.
  • Exposure to software systems like SCADA and DCS platforms is a plus.
