Job Title: Power Plant Automation Engineer
Job Summary:
The Power Plant Automation Manager oversees the planning, execution, and optimization of automation systems in power generation facilities. This role includes managing a team of engineers and technicians, leading large-scale projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards, and aligning automation systems with organizational objectives. The Manager plays a pivotal role in driving innovation, system reliability, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians responsible for automation systems.
- Define team goals, allocate resources, and ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members, fostering their professional development.
System Oversight and Optimization:
- Oversee the operation, configuration, and optimization of SCADA, DCS, PLCs, and HMI systems.
- Ensure seamless integration and functionality of automation systems with turbines, generators, boilers, and auxiliary equipment.
- Drive initiatives to upgrade legacy systems and integrate advanced technologies for improved performance.
Project Management:
- Manage large-scale automation projects, including system upgrades, commissioning, and retrofits.
- Develop detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to address project challenges.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all automation activities comply with industry standards (e.g., IEC, ISA) and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct safety risk assessments and oversee the implementation of mitigation measures.
- Validate and maintain safety-critical automation systems, including emergency shutdown mechanisms.
Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities on automation-related matters.
- Prepare and present comprehensive reports on system performance, project progress, and compliance metrics to senior leadership.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure automation systems align with organizational goals and client requirements.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to enhance the reliability and efficiency of automation systems.
- Lead the implementation of predictive maintenance tools, advanced diagnostics, and optimization techniques.
- Stay updated with industry advancements and recommend solutions for continuous improvement.

Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Extensive knowledge of automation systems, including SCADA, DCS, PLCs, and HMIs.
- Advanced understanding of programming languages like Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram (FBD), and Structured Text.
- Expertise in industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and Ethernet/IP.
- Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Comprehensive understanding of safety regulations, risk management, and emergency response protocols.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Advanced certifications in SCADA, DCS, or project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are highly desirable.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in automation systems, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing large teams and delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
Tools and Technologies:
- Expertise in advanced diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, thermal cameras, and vibration analyzers.
- Proficiency in software platforms like Siemens TIA Portal, Honeywell Experion, ABB DCS, or Rockwell Studio 5000.
- Familiarity with data analytics tools for monitoring and improving system performance.
