Job Title: Power Plant Automation Engineer

Job Summary:

The Fresher Power Plant Automation Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, configuration, testing, and maintenance of automation systems in power generation facilities. This role focuses on gaining foundational knowledge in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) while assisting in ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

System Configuration and Testing:

  • Assist in configuring and programming automation systems, including SCADA, DCS, and PLCs, under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Support system testing and validation to ensure automation components meet operational and safety standards.
  • Participate in commissioning activities for new automation systems in power plants.

Monitoring and Maintenance:

  • Monitor automation systems to ensure seamless operation of turbines, generators, boilers, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic troubleshooting of automation components to maintain system reliability.
  • Document issues and escalate unresolved problems to senior team members for resolution.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to organizational and regulatory safety protocols during all automation-related activities.
  • Assist in testing and maintaining emergency shutdown systems to ensure operational readiness.
  • Report unsafe conditions and participate in safety training programs to build a strong safety foundation.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of system configurations, test results, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Assist in preparing basic technical reports on automation system performance and project progress.
  • Ensure documentation complies with organizational and industry standards.

Learning and Development:

  • Attend training sessions to develop expertise in automation technologies and power plant processes.
  • Gain exposure to SCADA/DCS platforms, PLC programming, and HMI design and operation.
  • Build familiarity with industry standards, including IEC, ISA, and relevant regulatory frameworks.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Automation Systems: Assist in programming and configuring SCADA, DCS, and PLC platforms.
  • Power Plant Processes: Support automation tasks for turbines, generators, boilers, and auxiliary systems.
  • Safety and Emergency Systems: Participate in testing and maintaining automation components of safety-critical systems.
  • System Integration: Learn and contribute to the seamless integration of automation systems with plant operations.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of automation systems, including SCADA, DCS, and PLCs.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Ladder Logic or Function Block Diagram (FBD) is advantageous.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to assist in troubleshooting automation issues.
  • Awareness of safety regulations and protocols in industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in basic software tools, such as Microsoft Office, for documentation and reporting.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Basic certification or training in automation systems (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, ABB) is an advantage.

Experience:

  • No prior experience required; internships or academic projects related to automation systems are beneficial.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with basic diagnostic tools such as multimeters and loop calibrators.
  • Exposure to software platforms like Siemens TIA Portal, Honeywell Experion, or ABB DCS is a plus.
