The Senior Piping Systems Engineer leads the design, engineering, and technical execution of custom piping spools and assemblies used in water and wastewater treatment plants. This role involves providing strategic guidance across multiple projects, ensuring full compliance with applicable codes and standards, driving design optimization, and collaborating with fabrication, construction, and QA/QC teams. The engineer will also mentor junior engineers and support innovation in piping system integration and modularization.
Lead the design and engineering of complex piping systems including custom spools, modular assemblies, valve networks, and equipment connections.
Review and approve piping layouts, spool drawings, BOMs, and material specifications.
Ensure designs meet all project specifications, AWWA, ASME B31.3, ANSI, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Oversee fabrication packages and interface with shops to clarify designs, resolve issues, and ensure constructability.
Monitor quality assurance measures including NDT requirements, hydrostatic testing criteria, and welding compliance.
Support onsite and offsite fabrication inspection, installation reviews, and commissioning activities.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and designers, conduct design reviews, and enforce engineering best practices.
Lead knowledge transfer sessions and drive continual professional development within the piping design team.
Collaborate with process engineers, procurement teams, construction managers, and vendors to align piping system design with broader project goals.
Provide field engineering support and contribute to resolving interface and installation issues in the field.
Champion value engineering, modularization strategies, and standardization of piping components to reduce cost and installation time.
Stay updated with emerging trends in piping materials, digital modeling (BIM), and fabrication technologies.

Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Certifications:

Experience:
8–12+ years of relevant experience in piping design and fabrication for water treatment, process plants, or industrial facilities
Demonstrated leadership in executing major piping projects or custom fabrication packages
Skills:
Expert knowledge of piping standards (ASME B31.3, B31.1, AWWA, ANSI, ASTM)
Proficiency in CAD/PDS/PDMS/BIM tools and piping analysis software
Strong leadership, communication, and project coordination skills
Proven ability to manage technical risk, fabrication issues, and field modifications
