Job Title: Piping Design Engineer 

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Piping Design Engineer to take a lead role in the design and implementation of piping systems for large-scale industrial projects. As a senior engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design process, overseeing the performance of complex piping systems, and managing multidisciplinary teams. You will ensure that all designs are efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with relevant standards and codes. Additionally, you will mentor junior and mid-level engineers and manage multiple design projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead Piping System Design:

    • Oversee and lead the design of complex piping systems, ensuring they are fit for purpose, efficient, and comply with relevant codes and regulations (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM).
    • Lead the creation of piping layouts, detailed drawings, and 3D models using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or similar).
    • Develop comprehensive design specifications, including material selection, pressure ratings, and flow analysis.
    • Perform detailed design calculations to ensure the strength, reliability, and safety of the piping systems.
  2. Project Management and Coordination:

    • Manage and lead multiple piping design projects from conception through to completion, ensuring designs meet project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
    • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil) to ensure seamless integration of piping systems into larger infrastructure or facility designs.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, providing technical guidance and ensuring that design requirements are met.
  3. Technical Leadership and Mentorship:

    • Provide mentorship and technical support to junior and mid-level engineers, helping them develop their skills and expertise in piping design.
    • Review design work produced by junior engineers and ensure it meets industry standards, project specifications, and company quality standards.
    • Lead design reviews and technical meetings, ensuring all team members are aligned with project goals and objectives.
  4. Optimization and Continuous Improvement:

    • Optimize piping designs for maximum efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and safety.
    • Propose and implement improvements to existing systems, incorporating new technologies or practices to enhance performance.
    • Conduct periodic reviews of ongoing designs and projects, suggesting improvements or modifications to address any issues or inefficiencies.
  5. Compliance and Safety Standards:

    • Ensure that all piping designs are compliant with local, national, and international codes and regulations.
    • Incorporate safety standards into every aspect of the design, ensuring that safety considerations are embedded into the system.
    • Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and site evaluations to ensure the safety and feasibility of designs before implementation.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain and organize all project documentation, including design calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings.
    • Prepare and present detailed project reports, ensuring that design progress, challenges, and solutions are clearly communicated to clients and stakeholders.
    • Ensure that all changes and updates to the designs are properly documented and that records are kept up-to-date.
  7. Client and Stakeholder Communication:

    • Engage with clients to understand their design requirements, offering technical advice and recommendations where necessary.
    • Present design concepts and project progress to clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, ensuring that all parties are kept informed and aligned.

    • Take responsibility for the end-to-end design process of complex piping systems, ensuring the integrity and reliability of the designs.

    • Lead and mentor the engineering team, ensuring that junior and mid-level engineers are supported in their professional development.
  3. Project Management and Delivery:

    • Manage multiple projects and ensure that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required technical standards.
  4. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that all piping designs comply with relevant safety regulations and codes, promoting a culture of safety across the engineering team.
  5. Innovation and Process Improvement:

    • Implement new technologies and methodologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of piping system designs.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
    • Advanced certifications in piping design, mechanical systems, or industrial engineering are preferred.
  2. Experience:

    • 7+ years of experience in piping design, including extensive experience in managing large-scale projects and complex piping systems.
    • Proven experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, or other piping design tools) and advanced piping design methodologies.
    • Strong experience in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and client communications.
  3. Skills:

    • Expertise in piping design, system integration, and project management.
    • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, fluid dynamics, and material science as it relates to piping design.
    • In-depth knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM) and the ability to apply them effectively.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and teams while maintaining high standards of quality.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
    • Certification in piping design or related fields (e.g., Certified Piping Designer, PMP) is highly beneficial.
