The Senior Pipefitter plays a key leadership and technical role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex piping systems in water and wastewater treatment facilities. This role demands advanced proficiency in reading blueprints, pipefitting codes, and standards (AWWA, ASME B31.3, ANSI), as well as experience coordinating field work, mentoring less experienced crew, and ensuring the integrity of mechanical installations.
Lead or independently perform the layout, cutting, threading, fitting, welding prep, and joining of pipes made of ductile iron, carbon/stainless steel, PVC, HDPE, and other materials.
Install and align valves, pumps, meters, and mechanical supports across plant and distribution systems.
Supervise or guide junior crew during mechanical installation tasks, ensuring safety and quality.
Conduct high-level troubleshooting of piping networks for leaks, corrosion, and mechanical failure.
Oversee or perform corrective actions including pipe section replacement, valve overhauls, and pressure testing.
Coordinate with operators during shutdowns, commissioning, and back-in-service transitions.
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with AWWA, ASME, ANSI, and site-specific codes.
Read and mark up complex drawings, isometrics, and P&IDs for fabrication and QA/QC tracking.
Maintain accurate records of installation progress, inspections, and repair logs.
Enforce and model best practices in LOTO, confined space, hot work permitting, and PPE use.
Act as point-of-contact for pipefitting scope during construction, maintenance, or emergency operations.
Participate in project planning and interface with engineers, welders, and contractors.
