The Junior Pipefitter assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems used in water and wastewater treatment plants. This entry-level position supports senior pipefitters in laying out, assembling, and securing pipework while gaining experience with relevant tools, materials, and system standards (AWWA, ASME, ANSI). Safety awareness, mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to learn are essential.
Assist in measuring, cutting, threading, and assembling pipe sections for water distribution and treatment systems.
Support layout and alignment of pipework according to blueprints and schematics.
Help install valves, supports, brackets, and related fittings under supervision.
Assist in performing routine maintenance and emergency repairs on pipelines, flanges, joints, and mechanical connections.
Prepare materials, tools, and equipment at job sites.
Help isolate piping sections and follow safety lockout/tagout procedures.
Follow company safety procedures, wear proper PPE, and participate in safety briefings.
Support confined space entry, hot work permitting, and safe handling of tools and pipefitting materials.
Learn to work within applicable codes such as AWWA, ASME B31.3, and ANSI standards.
Work closely with experienced pipefitters and mechanical technicians to develop trade skills.
Attend training in pipefitting techniques, blueprint reading, and safety practices.

Education:
High school diploma or GED required
Technical training or coursework in pipefitting or plumbing preferred
Certifications (Preferred):
OSHA 10 or basic safety certification
Forklift, scissor lift, or confined space training
Experience:
0–2 years of experience in pipefitting, mechanical installation, or construction
Skills:
Basic understanding of piping systems and tools
Willingness to learn and work in physically demanding environments
Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team
