The Senior Panel Wiring Technician is responsible for leading and executing the complete build and wiring of MCCs, control panels, and automation enclosures to high engineering and quality standards. This role includes supervising junior technicians, ensuring adherence to safety and compliance standards, and supporting site installation or testing activities when required. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in industrial panel building, troubleshooting, quality control, and team leadership.
Independently read and interpret complex electrical drawings, terminal plans, and I/O schematics to lead the wiring of panels.
Supervise and execute the assembly and wiring of MCCs, VFD panels, PLC panels, relay-based control panels, and distribution boards.
Mount and wire electrical components such as circuit breakers, contactors, overloads, VFDs, PLCs, power supplies, timers, relays, and instrumentation.
Perform functional tests, troubleshoot wiring faults, and support FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) with internal QA or client engineers.
Coordinate with the design, procurement, and automation teams to resolve technical or component-related issues.
Ensure proper wire selection, ferruling, cable routing, labeling, grounding, and panel finishing.
Train and mentor junior wiring technicians, assign tasks, and ensure on-time completion with quality.
Maintain technical records including as-built documentation, wiring changes, and test reports.
Follow all workshop safety norms, electrical codes (IEC/NEMA/UL), and company quality standards.
Assist in onsite installation, interface wiring, and initial power-up or commissioning support as needed.
Advanced Electrical Drawing Interpretation
Expertise in reading wiring schematics, load schedules, terminal plans, PLC I/O drawings, and control logic circuits.
Identify and resolve discrepancies in drawings; communicate with design or engineering team for revisions.
Complex Wiring Execution
Independently wire complex panels involving interlocking, motor starters, soft starters, VFDs, analog/digital IO, safety relays, etc.
Handle power & control segregation, loop wiring, redundant power, and structured panel layout.
Testing & Troubleshooting
Perform and lead continuity, insulation resistance, loop checks, and dry-run testing.
Analyze and fix issues related to wiring errors, signal mismatches, grounding problems, and component malfunctions.
Workmanship & Compliance
Ensure industry-standard workmanship with focus on cable routing, ferruling, terminal tightening, and general aesthetics.
Adhere to UL508A, IEC, or other applicable panel building standards.
Team Supervision & Skill Development
Guide and mentor junior team members; provide hands-on training.
Monitor task progress and ensure timely and quality-focused output.
Documentation & Change Management
Maintain accurate wiring change records, redline drawings, and update as-built documentation.
Ensure panel QC records, test reports, and compliance checklists are properly maintained.
Cross-functional Coordination & Field Support
Coordinate with panel designers, automation engineers, and project leads to align panel work with system requirements.
Travel to customer sites for installation supervision, signal checks, and final commissioning support (if applicable).
Education: ITI / Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering.
Experience: Minimum 7+ years in panel wiring and electrical assembly (with leadership or supervisory exposure).
Technical Skills:
Deep knowledge of motor control circuits, relay logic, PLC/SCADA interfaces, and industrial wiring best practices.
Proficiency with tools like multimeters, insulation testers, ferrule printers, torque tools, etc.
Soft Skills:
Strong attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset.
Ability to lead a team and coordinate with multiple departments.
Willingness to adapt and take initiative in high-pressure environments.
