The Mid-Level Panel Wiring Technician will independently handle the assembly, wiring, and testing of Motor Control Centers (MCCs), control panels, and PLC panels for industrial automation and power distribution systems. This role involves reading and interpreting electrical drawings, executing panel wiring to high-quality standards, and supporting testing and field installation activities.
Assemble and wire MCC panels, control cabinets, and PLC panels based on detailed electrical and layout drawings.
Mount and interconnect electrical components including MCBs, contactors, relays, terminal blocks, power supplies, VFDs, and PLC modules.
Independently interpret wiring diagrams, terminal layouts, and schematics to execute panel wiring tasks.
Perform continuity, phase, and insulation resistance tests on panels using multimeters, megger, etc.
Ensure proper labeling, routing, ferruling, crimping, and cable dressing for clean and compliant panels.
Maintain documentation such as as-built drawings, wiring reports, and test results.
Identify and resolve wiring errors or mismatches during internal quality checks.
Follow safety protocols and electrical standards (IEC, UL, NEMA) throughout the job.
Guide and mentor junior wiring technicians as needed.
Electrical Drawing Interpretation
Proficient in reading GA diagrams, wiring schematics, terminal diagrams, and component layout drawings.
Identify wiring conflicts or drawing discrepancies and raise timely queries.
Panel Assembly & Wiring
Execute complex wiring such as control logic loops, interlocks, motor starters, and analog I/O wiring.
Experience with three-phase motor wiring, overload relays, soft starters, and VFD control circuits.
Tools & Quality Standards
Skilled use of crimping tools, torque screwdrivers, insulation testers, ferrule printers, and wire cutting/stripping tools.
Ensure adherence to panel layout standards, wire size selection, and spacing rules.
Testing & Pre-Dispatch Inspection
Conduct internal testing including point-to-point continuity, insulation resistance, functional checks, and loop verification.
Work with QA teams or customers during Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
Field Readiness & Commissioning Support
Capable of supporting panel installation, wiring interface at site, and initial power-up procedures.
Collaborate with automation or commissioning engineers for signal testing and troubleshooting.
Workmanship & Compliance
Ensure clean workmanship, proper cable management, labeling, and conformance to electrical codes.
Understand GMP/cleanroom panel requirements (for pharma/F&B industry, if applicable).
Mentorship & Coordination
Assist in supervising junior technicians and helpers in the workshop.
Coordinate with design, procurement, and project teams for timely issue resolution.
Education: ITI / Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, or related trade.
Experience: 3–6 years of experience in panel wiring and assembly (MCCs, control panels, automation panels).
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of industrial control systems and motor circuits.
Experience with power & control wiring, especially for automation and OEM systems.
Soft Skills:
Good troubleshooting and analytical thinking.
Effective time management and team collaboration skills.
Willingness to travel for short-term site assignments (optional based on role).
