Panel Wiring Technician – MCC/Control Cabinets

Roles & Responsibilities

The Junior Panel Wiring Technician will assist in assembling and wiring Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and Control Panels based on electrical drawings and instructions. This role is suitable for candidates with a technical background in electrical or electronics engineering looking to gain hands-on experience in industrial panel building and control systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in wiring of control panels, MCC panels, PLC panels, and related enclosures as per schematics and layout diagrams.

  • Mount electrical components such as contactors, MCBs, relays, terminals, power supplies, VFDs, etc., on panels.

  • Route wires neatly and label cables accurately as per wiring schedules.

  • Perform basic continuity and insulation testing under supervision.

  • Ensure proper crimping, soldering, and termination techniques using appropriate tools.

  • Maintain tools and workspace in a clean and organized manner.

  • Report issues, errors in wiring diagrams, or missing components to the supervisor.

  • Follow safety protocols and use PPE during all wiring and testing tasks.


Key Focus Areas:

  1. Electrical Drawing Interpretation

    • Read and understand single line diagrams (SLD), GA drawings, wiring diagrams, and terminal charts.

  2. Panel Wiring & Assembly

    • Assist in wiring three-phase and single-phase circuits, control logic circuits, and terminal connections in panels.

    • Support tasks like drilling, tapping, and mounting hardware on enclosures.

  3. Tool Handling & Wiring Standards

    • Use tools like wire strippers, ferrule crimpers, torque screwdrivers, multimeters, and label printers.

    • Follow best practices in wiring layout: routing, spacing, dressing, and labeling.

  4. Testing & Quality Checks

    • Participate in initial QC inspections, continuity checks, and basic electrical testing under guidance.

    • Learn to identify wiring mistakes, shorts, or open circuits during internal testing.

  5. Safety & Compliance

    • Follow electrical safety standards and comply with workshop rules and PPE usage.

    • Support adherence to IEC/UL/NEMA standards, as applicable.

  6. Learning & Development

    • Continuously learn panel building techniques and evolve towards independent panel assembly.

    • Shadow senior technicians to understand PLC wiring, VFD setup, and panel commissioning basics.


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: ITI / Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering.

  • Experience: 0–2 years (internship or vocational training in panel wiring is a plus).

  • Technical Skills:

    • Basic knowledge of AC/DC circuits, wiring tools, and industrial control components.

    • Ability to read basic wiring diagrams and follow assembly instructions.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Good attention to detail and willingness to learn.

    • Teamwork and communication skills.

    • Discipline in safety and housekeeping.
