Role Purpose
Execute surface preparation, priming, painting, protective coatings, and decorative finishes to approved specifications and standards—delivering uniform color, sheen, and coverage—while complying with Sharjah Municipality requirements and accounting for weather and traffic/logistics constraints.
Key Responsibilities
Substrate Inspection & Preparation
- Check substrates (plaster/putty/gypsum/concrete/metal/wood) for moisture, laitance, dust, cracks, pinholes, and flatness; repair with approved fillers/skim.
- Achieve required smoothness (e.g., 2 m straightedge tolerance) before finish coats; sand between coats; ensure clean, dry, dust-free surfaces.
- Mask and protect adjacent finishes (glass, aluminum, stone, floors, fixtures); maintain clean edges and reveals.
Priming & Coating Application
- Apply appropriate primers/sealers (alkali-resistant on new plaster/concrete; etch/anti-corrosive on metals; wood sealers) per data sheets.
- Install finishing systems: emulsions, eggshell/satin, semi-gloss/gloss, textured/acrylic for façades, and anti-carbonation/UV-resistant coatings where specified.
- For metalworks (grilles/handrails), apply anticorrosive primers and compatible topcoats; for exposed steel, follow specified DFT and stripe-coat edges/welds.
- Execute parking/plant room coatings and demarcation (epoxy/PU where specified); apply anti-slip systems at stairs/ramps if required.
- Mix, thin, and apply materials strictly to manufacturer instructions (coverage rate, DFT, pot life, recoating/curing intervals).Decorative & Special Finishes (as specified)
- Deliver feature walls, textures, faux finishes, stains, varnishes, and intumescent/fire-retardant paint (with QA witness and DFT records) when in scope.
- Perform color matching and sheen consistency across rooms and batches.
Quality Control & Documentation
- Follow method statements/ITPs; present work for MIR/WIR inspections.
- Conduct/assist with QA checks: adhesion (cross-hatch), DFT/WFT, gloss level, color uniformity, and holiday/pin-hole checks for epoxies.
- Maintain batch logs, area tallies, and touch-up lists; update redlines for any detail changes.
Coordination & Sequencing
- Sequence works after plaster/putty drying, MEP testing, and before final fixtures; coordinate with ceiling/door/joinery installation to prevent rework.
- Protect completed areas; implement no-traffic windows during cure; support snagging/de-snagging to handover.
HSE
- Comply with PPE, ventilation, and VOC/solvent safety; keep MSDS available.
- Manage ladders/scaffolds/MEWPs; control dust (sanding extraction), electrical safety for tools, and fire risks (no ignition sources near solvents).
- Maintain tidy mixing/cleaning zones and safe hose/cable routing.
Weather & Traffic Considerations (Sharjah/UAE)
Qualifications & Experience
- 5–8 years painting/finishing experience (UAE/GCC preferred) on low/mid-rise RC buildings.
- Proficient in substrate prep, primers, multi-coat systems, decorative finishes, and protective coatings (incl. epoxy/PU).
- Able to read finish schedules, color schedules, and data sheets; basic English for coordination (Arabic/Urdu/Hindi an advantage).
Tools & Equipment (Typical)
Sanders/extractors, mixers, airless/spray guns & tips, rollers/brushes, wet film/DFT gauges, moisture meters, masking tools, ladders/scaffolds/MEWPs, PPE (respirator, goggles, gloves).
Core Competencies
- High-quality workmanship (coverage, cut lines, sheen uniformity)
- Surface preparation & defect prevention (cracking, peeling, pinholes)
- Time management and sequencing with other trades
- Documentation & adherence to data sheets
- Safety, ventilation, and housekeeping discipline
KPIs
- First-time pass rate on inspections; DFT and adhesion within spec.
- Low snag/rework ratio; uniform color/sheens across areas.
- Programme adherence for room/batch turnovers; minimal damage by follow-on trades.
- Compliance with midday break and site HSE; zero lost-time incidents.
