Job Title: Packaging and Labeling Automation Engineer
Job Summary:
The Junior Packaging and Labeling Automation Engineer will assist in the design, implementation, and optimization of automated systems for packaging and labeling in a manufacturing environment. This role involves working with senior engineers to configure, operate, and maintain packaging and labeling machinery, including automated labeling systems, robotic arms, conveyors, and other related equipment. The Junior Engineer will support ongoing automation processes, troubleshoot system issues, and help improve production efficiency, while ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Automation System Setup and Operation:
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and setup of automated packaging and labeling systems, including labeling machines, conveyors, and robotic arms.
- Support the operation of packaging and labeling systems during production runs, ensuring they operate efficiently and meet production goals.
- Assist in programming automated systems, including PLCs and control systems, to ensure proper packaging and labeling functionality.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
- Provide assistance in troubleshooting minor issues with packaging and labeling systems, including problems with sensors, robotic arms, and conveyors.
- Perform routine maintenance on automated packaging systems to ensure they are functioning optimally and minimize downtime.
- Assist senior engineers in identifying causes of system malfunctions and implementing corrective actions.
Data Collection and Performance Monitoring:
- Help monitor system performance during production runs, collecting data related to machine performance, output rates, and system efficiency.
- Assist in preparing reports based on performance metrics, such as downtime, production speed, and labeling accuracy.
- Support data analysis efforts to identify patterns, inefficiencies, or potential areas for improvement in the packaging and labeling process.
Process Optimization:
- Support efforts to optimize the automated packaging and labeling systems, improving operational efficiency and reducing production costs.
- Identify opportunities to improve labeling accuracy, packaging speed, and system uptime.
- Work with senior engineers to implement process changes or upgrades to improve performance.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure packaging and labeling processes comply with quality standards and regulatory requirements, including accurate product labeling, barcode scanning, and packaging integrity.
- Assist in audits of packaging systems and labeling operations to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
- Help ensure all equipment is properly calibrated and meets regulatory guidelines for product labeling.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Work closely with production, quality control, and engineering teams to ensure smooth operations and support ongoing packaging and labeling processes.
- Provide technical support to operators, helping them with issues related to automation equipment or troubleshooting.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss performance, resolve issues, and identify improvements in packaging and labeling processes.
Learning and Development:
- Continuously develop technical knowledge and skills related to automation systems, packaging technology, and control systems.
- Stay updated on industry advancements, new automation technologies, and best practices in packaging and labeling.
- Participate in training programs, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions to grow expertise in packaging and labeling automation.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Basic understanding of packaging and labeling processes, including automation and machine operation.
- Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA systems, and basic control systems used in packaging automation.
- Good understanding of sensors, conveyors, and automated machinery used in packaging and labeling applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills to support troubleshooting and resolving automation issues.
- Ability to work with data collection tools and systems to track production performance.
- Good attention to detail to ensure accurate product labeling and packaging quality.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Coursework or certifications in automation, PLC programming, robotics, or packaging systems is a plus.
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in automation systems, packaging machinery, or related fields.
- Exposure to PLC programming, SCADA systems, or robotics in an academic or internship setting is beneficial.
- Familiarity with automated packaging systems and labeling equipment through coursework or hands-on training is an advantage.
Tools and Technologies:
- Familiarity with PLC programming software (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000).
- Basic understanding of SCADA systems, HMI (Human-Machine Interface), and industrial sensors.
- Knowledge of data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Minitab) for system performance monitoring is a plus.
