Job Title: Packaging and Labeling Automation Engineer
Job Summary:
The Packaging and Labeling Automation Engineer (Fresher) is responsible for supporting the design, installation, operation, and optimization of automated systems used in packaging and labeling processes in a manufacturing environment. This entry-level role focuses on learning and assisting senior engineers with programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining automated systems such as robotic arms, conveyors, labelers, and packaging machines. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient packaging and labeling operations, compliance with regulatory requirements, and adherence to production goals.
Key Responsibilities:
System Setup and Installation:
- Assist in the setup, installation, and configuration of automated packaging and labeling systems, including conveyors, robotic arms, labeling machines, and packaging machinery.
- Support the integration of automation equipment with existing production lines, ensuring smooth operation and alignment with production schedules.
Automation System Operation and Support:
- Monitor the performance of automated packaging and labeling systems during production runs, ensuring that systems operate efficiently and meet production requirements.
- Assist senior engineers in troubleshooting basic issues with automation equipment and packaging systems, ensuring minimal downtime and continuous operation.
- Participate in the maintenance and calibration of automation systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with quality standards.
System Programming and Configuration:
- Learn to program and configure automated systems, including PLCs and control systems, to perform packaging and labeling tasks according to production specifications.
- Assist in the creation of control logic for automated machines to execute specific packaging and labeling functions.
- Test and validate new automation programs to ensure correct functionality and troubleshooting of programming issues.
Data Collection and Reporting:
- Assist in collecting data related to the performance of packaging and labeling systems, such as production rates, downtime, and error rates.
- Help prepare reports on system performance, production efficiency, and areas for improvement.
- Support the development of dashboards and metrics to track operational performance in packaging and labeling operations.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Assist in the routine maintenance of packaging and labeling systems, ensuring that machines are operating at peak efficiency.
- Support the identification and resolution of minor technical issues related to automated systems, including sensors, robots, and conveyors.
- Document maintenance and troubleshooting activities to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
Compliance and Quality Control:
- Ensure packaging and labeling systems are compliant with industry standards and regulatory requirements, including safety and quality regulations.
- Work with quality control teams to ensure that all packaging and labeling tasks are performed to meet product specifications and customer requirements.
- Assist in auditing packaging and labeling processes for compliance with labeling laws, product standards, and environmental regulations.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Work with production teams to ensure packaging and labeling systems are aligned with production schedules and goals.
- Collaborate with engineers, operators, and quality control teams to address any system performance or operational challenges.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss project progress, system issues, and process improvements.
Learning and Development:
- Continuously learn and develop technical expertise in packaging and labeling automation systems.
- Participate in training programs to enhance skills in automation technology, PLC programming, and system troubleshooting.
- Stay updated on the latest trends in packaging technology and automation, including innovations in robotics, labeling, and packaging materials.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Basic understanding of automation systems, including robotics, PLCs, conveyors, and packaging machinery.
- Familiarity with packaging and labeling processes and equipment is advantageous.
- Strong interest in learning about process automation, control systems, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Good problem-solving skills with the ability to support the identification and resolution of issues with automation systems.
- Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with other engineers, operators, and quality control teams.
- Basic knowledge of data collection and reporting tools to track system performance and production metrics.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Basic coursework or certifications in automation, PLC programming, robotics, or manufacturing processes is a plus.
Experience:
- No prior professional experience required; internships, academic projects, or hands-on training related to automation, robotics, or manufacturing processes are advantageous.
- Exposure to packaging and labeling equipment or automation systems through coursework or practical experience is beneficial.
Tools and Technologies:
- Familiarity with PLC programming software (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000).
- Basic knowledge of SCADA systems, HMI, or process control software is a plus.
- Exposure to robotics and conveyor systems in an industrial setting is an advantage.
