Job Title: Packaging Machinery Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Packaging Machinery Engineer – Mid-Level to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, optimization, troubleshooting, and maintenance of packaging machinery. You will work on ensuring that packaging systems operate efficiently, meet production targets, and adhere to safety and quality standards. As a mid-level engineer, you will have the opportunity to lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions that enhance packaging processes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and Development of Packaging Machinery:

   • Lead the design and improvement of packaging machinery, including conveyors, palletizers, and automated packing systems, ensuring they meet production requirements and safety standards.
   • Develop detailed design specifications and CAD drawings for packaging equipment upgrades and new installations.
   • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the machinery design integrates well with production and operational workflows.

2. Optimization of Packaging Systems:

   • Analyze existing packaging systems and machinery to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, speed, and cost-effectiveness.
   • Implement modifications and enhancements to optimize the performance of packaging equipment, minimizing downtime and maximizing throughput.
   • Work with the operations team to test and validate machinery adjustments, ensuring that improvements meet operational goals.

3. Troubleshooting and Maintenance:

   • Lead troubleshooting efforts for mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues with packaging machinery and systems.
   • Perform detailed diagnostics to identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend and implement solutions.
   • Oversee the maintenance schedule for packaging machinery, ensuring that preventive maintenance tasks are completed on time to avoid unexpected breakdowns.

4. Project Management:

   • Manage and lead projects for the installation, commissioning, or upgrading of packaging machinery, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
   • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to source parts, tools, and machinery, ensuring availability for maintenance or new installations.
   • Prepare project timelines, track progress, and provide updates to senior management.

5. Mentorship and Team Collaboration:

   • Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing support in their professional development and fostering a collaborative work environment.
   • Collaborate with the production, quality control, and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, ensure proper machine operation, and implement improvements.
   • Provide technical expertise in machinery design and maintenance to resolve operational challenges.

6. Documentation and Reporting:

   • Maintain comprehensive documentation for design changes, machinery updates, troubleshooting efforts, and maintenance activities.
   • Prepare regular reports on machine performance, improvement initiatives, and maintenance outcomes.
   • Create detailed operating manuals and maintenance procedures for packaging equipment and systems.

7. Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

   • Ensure all packaging machinery complies with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
   • Conduct safety assessments of packaging machinery and processes, implementing improvements where needed to enhance safety.
   • Promote safety awareness in the team, ensuring that equipment is operated and maintained safely.

   • Guide and mentor junior engineers, encouraging growth and skill development, and fostering a collaborative team environment.

5. Safety and Compliance:

   • Ensure all machinery and operations comply with safety standards and regulations, focusing on reducing risk and enhancing the workplace environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Educational Requirements:

   • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or a related field.
   • Additional certifications in machinery design, maintenance, or industrial operations are advantageous.

2. Experience:

   • 3-5 years of experience in packaging machinery design, maintenance, and optimization within a manufacturing or production environment.
   • Hands-on experience with packaging systems such as automated conveyors, filling, sealing, and labeling machines is highly preferred.
   • Proven track record in leading projects and driving improvements in machinery performance.

3. Skills:

   • Strong proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) for machinery design and layout.
   • Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and control systems, with the ability to quickly identify and resolve issues.
   • Ability to manage projects and collaborate effectively across teams.
   • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and packaging technologies.
   • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to provide clear documentation and reports.

4. Certifications (Preferred):

   • Project management certification (PMP) or similar.
   • Safety certifications, such as OSHA, are highly beneficial.
   • Specialized certifications related to packaging machinery or automated systems.
