The Packaging Line Supervisor – Mechanical Systems leads the daily operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical packaging equipment on one or more packaging lines. This role manages a small team of technicians and operators, coordinates maintenance activities, and ensures packaging machinery runs efficiently, safely, and in compliance with food safety and quality standards.
Supervise mechanical packaging equipment such as fillers, labelers, sealers, conveyors, and case packers.
Lead a team of maintenance technicians and operators to maintain high equipment uptime and line productivity.
Plan and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities on packaging machinery.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement solutions to minimize downtime and quality defects.
Ensure compliance with food safety, GMP, and plant safety standards during packaging operations.
Collaborate closely with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Production to optimize packaging line performance.
Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and incident reports.
Train and mentor operators and junior technicians on mechanical system operation, maintenance, and safety.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on packaging line reliability and efficiency.
Participate in equipment installation, upgrades, and commissioning activities.
Education:
Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred.
Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA, Lean Six Sigma) a plus.
Experience:
3–5 years of experience working with mechanical packaging systems in a manufacturing environment.
Proven track record supervising maintenance teams or operators on packaging lines.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of fillers, labelers, sealers, conveyors, and related mechanical packaging equipment.
Skilled in mechanical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair techniques.
Familiarity with food safety standards such as GMP and HACCP.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, manuals, and SOPs.
