Job Title: PLC Engineer

Job Summary:

The Fresher PLC Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design, programming, installation, and maintenance of PLC-based control systems in industrial, commercial, and manufacturing environments. This role is ideal for individuals looking to start their career in automation and control systems. The fresher will work under the guidance of senior engineers, gaining hands-on experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and system integration. The role will also involve supporting routine maintenance and upgrades of PLC-based control systems to ensure efficient and safe operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. PLC Programming and Configuration Support:

    • Assist in the programming, configuration, and testing of PLC systems for automation processes, including Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block programming.
    • Support senior engineers in configuring PLC hardware and software for various industrial processes.
    • Assist in writing and modifying PLC programs based on project specifications and requirements.
  2. System Installation and Integration:

    • Assist in the installation of PLC hardware, control panels, sensors, actuators, and other components necessary for automation systems.
    • Help with the integration of PLC systems with other machinery and equipment to ensure proper communication and functionality across systems.
    • Participate in the commissioning of PLC systems and ensure that all components work correctly within the overall system design.
  3. Testing and System Verification:

    • Assist in testing PLC systems to verify that they are working according to specifications.
    • Support senior engineers in troubleshooting and resolving programming errors, system malfunctions, and issues with PLC communications.
    • Perform simple diagnostics and testing of electrical control systems and PLC interfaces.
  4. Routine Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

    • Help with routine inspections and preventive maintenance of PLC systems to ensure their continued operation and reduce the risk of breakdowns.
    • Assist with troubleshooting PLCs, control panels, and associated equipment when issues arise, working under supervision to resolve problems quickly.
    • Learn to use diagnostic tools like multimeters, PLC software, and test equipment to analyze and resolve issues.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation for all PLC installations, configurations, and maintenance work.
    • Help prepare system reports, status updates, and maintenance logs for ongoing work or future troubleshooting.
    • Ensure that all system designs, wiring diagrams, and configuration files are properly documented for future reference.
  6. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously develop knowledge of PLC programming languages and industrial automation practices through on-the-job training and mentoring.
    • Participate in training sessions, workshops, or certifications related to PLCs, automation, and control systems.
    • Stay current on emerging technologies and industry best practices in PLC programming and automation systems.
  7. Health and Safety Compliance:

    • Follow all relevant safety procedures when working with PLC systems, electrical systems, and industrial equipment.
    • Learn to apply safety standards, codes, and guidelines to ensure that all work is conducted safely and efficiently.
    • Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out during maintenance activities.
  8. Collaboration and Teamwork:

    • Work effectively as part of a team, assisting senior engineers and collaborating with other departments to ensure successful project delivery.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to share progress, issues, and ideas related to PLC projects.
    • Participate in team meetings to understand project requirements, timelines, and goals.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of PLC systems, control panels, and industrial automation.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or Function Block Diagram.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical circuits, sensors, actuators, and wiring.
  • Strong interest in learning PLC programming and automation technologies.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision while developing technical skills.
  • Good problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and take on increasing responsibilities.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety, and quality in all tasks.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant coursework or academic projects in PLC programming, control systems, or automation is a plus.
  • Certifications in PLC programming or automation are advantageous but not required.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Distribution Networks

  • Understanding the role of PLC systems in automating power distribution processes.
  • SCADA and PLC Systems

  • Learning the basics of programming, configuring, and troubleshooting PLC systems in conjunction with SCADA.
  • Electrical Safety Standards and Codes (IEC, NEC)

  • Familiarizing with IEC, NEC, and other safety standards relevant to PLC operations and installations.

Experience:

  • No prior professional experience required.
  • Internships, academic projects, or hands-on experience with PLC systems, control systems, or automation is beneficial but not required.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with PLC programming software (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, Allen-Bradley) is beneficial but not required.
  • Exposure to electrical testing equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and PLC diagnostic tools.
  • Basic knowledge of SCADA systems or HMI development is a plus but not necessary.
