Job Summary:
The Senior Oil and Gas Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for leading the maintenance, optimization, and design of instrumentation and control systems across drilling, refining, and extraction processes. This role involves managing SCADA systems for pipeline management, overseeing safety and emergency shutdown systems, and ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. The Senior Engineer drives innovation, manages large-scale projects, and provides technical leadership to ensure system reliability and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Instrumentation System Leadership:
- Lead the calibration, troubleshooting, and optimization of instrumentation systems, including flow meters, pressure transmitters, level sensors, and control valves.
- Design and implement process control solutions for complex drilling, refining, and extraction operations.
- Analyze and interpret advanced process data to drive efficiency and reliability in instrumentation systems.
SCADA System Management:
- Oversee the configuration, monitoring, and optimization of SCADA systems for real-time pipeline management.
- Manage data acquisition, communication protocols, and system integration to ensure seamless operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve advanced SCADA-related issues and support enhancements for improved performance.
Safety and Emergency Systems:
- Ensure the proper functionality of safety-critical systems, such as emergency shutdown systems, gas detectors, and flame sensors.
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and implement strategies to mitigate operational risks.
- Drive compliance with safety standards and promote a culture of safety within the team.
Environmental and Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure instrumentation systems comply with environmental regulations, including emissions monitoring and control.
- Prepare comprehensive reports for audits, regulatory submissions, and internal reviews.
- Drive the adoption of sustainable practices and innovative technologies to reduce environmental impact.
Project Management:
- Lead large-scale instrumentation projects, including system upgrades, retrofits, and new installations.
- Develop project plans, manage budgets, and oversee timelines to ensure successful project completion.
- Validate and test system modifications to meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, calibration records, and maintenance activities.
- Prepare in-depth technical reports on system performance, troubleshooting, and process improvements.
- Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials for instrumentation systems.
Team Leadership and Mentorship:
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to mid-level and junior engineers, fostering professional development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align instrumentation activities with organizational goals.
- Act as a subject matter expert, offering guidance and insights on complex technical challenges.

- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving complex system issues.
- Proficiency in safety standards, regulatory compliance, and risk assessment practices.
- Strong leadership and project management skills for overseeing technical teams and large-scale projects.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Advanced certifications in SCADA systems, safety instrumentation, or process automation are highly desirable.
Experience:
- 7-10 years of experience in instrumentation systems design, maintenance, and optimization, preferably in oil and gas operations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
Tools and Technologies:
- Proficiency in advanced diagnostic tools, such as oscilloscopes, thermal cameras, and vibration analyzers.
- Expertise in SCADA platforms like Siemens WinCC, ABB, Honeywell Experion, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
