Job Summary:
The Mid-Level Oil and Gas Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for independently managing the design, maintenance, and optimization of instrumentation systems used in drilling, refining, and extraction processes. This role involves configuring and troubleshooting SCADA systems for pipeline management, ensuring the functionality of safety and emergency shutdown systems, and maintaining compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. The engineer contributes to project execution, system upgrades, and process improvements while mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Instrumentation System Maintenance and Optimization:
- Perform advanced calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of instrumentation systems, including flow meters, pressure transmitters, and temperature sensors.
- Independently manage the configuration and integration of control systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Analyze process data and trends to identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements.
SCADA Systems for Pipeline Management:
- Configure, monitor, and maintain SCADA systems for real-time pipeline management.
- Diagnose and resolve complex SCADA-related issues, including data communication and system integration challenges.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize SCADA performance and ensure data accuracy.
Safety and Emergency Systems:
- Ensure the proper functioning of safety and emergency shutdown systems through routine testing and validation.
- Lead risk assessments and implement safety measures in maintenance and operational workflows.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, including validating alarm systems and safety-critical equipment.
Environmental and Regulatory Compliance:
- Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations by maintaining instrumentation for emissions control and monitoring.
- Contribute to preparing detailed reports for audits and regulatory compliance submissions.
- Implement eco-friendly practices and technologies to reduce the environmental impact of operations.
Project Management and System Upgrades:
- Lead medium-scale projects involving system installations, upgrades, and commissioning.
- Develop project plans, manage timelines and resources, and ensure successful delivery of instrumentation projects.
- Validate and test upgraded systems to meet operational and regulatory standards.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive records of calibration data, maintenance activities, and system configurations.
- Prepare in-depth technical reports on system performance, troubleshooting activities, and recommendations for optimization.
- Update and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for instrumentation systems.
Collaboration and Mentorship:
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to ensure seamless system integration and performance.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians, fostering their skill development.
- Participate in cross-functional team discussions to drive process improvements and innovation.

Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Advanced certifications in SCADA, safety instrumentation, or process automation are highly desirable.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in instrumentation systems design, maintenance, and optimization, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex troubleshooting and project management tasks independently.
Tools and Technologies:
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools like multimeters, oscilloscopes, loop calibrators, and thermal cameras.
- Expertise in SCADA software platforms such as Siemens WinCC, Honeywell Experion, or ABB.
- Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
