Job Title: Oil and Gas Instrumentation Engineer

Job Summary:

The Instrumentation Engineer Manager in the oil and gas sector is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and optimization of instrumentation systems across drilling, refining, and extraction operations. This role involves managing SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), ensuring the reliability of safety and emergency shutdown systems, and ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. The Manager leads a team of engineers and technicians, drives strategic initiatives, and ensures alignment with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians responsible for instrumentation system maintenance, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Define team objectives, allocate resources, and monitor performance to ensure operational goals are met.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to enhance team expertise.

System Oversight and Optimization:

  • Oversee the calibration, maintenance, and optimization of instrumentation systems, including flow meters, pressure transmitters, and temperature sensors.
  • Ensure the reliable operation of SCADA and DCS systems for real-time monitoring and control of pipelines and processes.
  • Drive initiatives to improve system performance, reduce downtime, and enhance operational efficiency.

Safety and Emergency Systems:

  • Ensure the effective functioning and validation of safety-critical systems, such as emergency shutdown mechanisms and gas detectors.
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and implement measures to mitigate operational risks.
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with industry standards and organizational protocols.

Environmental and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Oversee systems for monitoring environmental parameters and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the preparation of comprehensive reports for audits, regulatory submissions, and environmental assessments.
  • Advocate for and implement sustainable practices to minimize the environmental impact of operations.

Project Management:

  • Manage large-scale projects, including system upgrades, retrofits, and new installations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop project plans, budgets, and timelines, and ensure the successful completion of projects within scope.
  • Validate and approve system upgrades and modifications to meet performance and safety standards.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, vendors, and regulatory bodies regarding instrumentation operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align instrumentation strategies with organizational objectives.
  • Present detailed reports and updates to senior leadership on system performance and project progress.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated on advancements in instrumentation technologies and integrate innovative solutions to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Lead the adoption of predictive maintenance tools, advanced analytics, and process automation technologies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize system performance and reduce operational costs.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of instrumentation systems, including SCADA, DCS, and process control devices.
  • Advanced project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Expertise in safety protocols, risk management, and regulatory compliance in oil and gas operations.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for optimizing system performance.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills to manage teams and collaborate with stakeholders.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in SCADA, process automation, or project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in instrumentation systems management, with significant experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a managerial role overseeing technical teams and large-scale projects.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Expertise in SCADA platforms (e.g., Siemens WinCC, ABB, Honeywell Experion) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, thermal cameras, and vibration analyzers.
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies and advanced data analytics tools.
