Job Title: Oil and Gas Instrumentation Engineer

Job Summary:

The Fresher Oil and Gas Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design, implementation, and maintenance of instrumentation systems for process control in drilling, refining, and extraction operations. The role involves learning to monitor SCADA systems for pipeline management, supporting the maintenance of safety and emergency shutdown systems, and ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. The engineer works under the guidance of senior engineers to develop technical expertise and industry knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Control and Monitoring:

  • Assist in configuring and calibrating instrumentation systems to monitor and control drilling, refining, and extraction processes.
  • Support the integration of sensors, transmitters, and controllers to ensure process efficiency and reliability.
  • Learn to analyze process data and trends for optimal performance.

SCADA Systems for Pipeline Management:

  • Assist in configuring and maintaining SCADA systems for real-time monitoring of pipelines.
  • Monitor pipeline parameters such as pressure, flow, and temperature, identifying anomalies and reporting them to senior staff.
  • Learn to interpret SCADA system alarms and support the resolution of basic issues.

Safety and Emergency Systems:

  • Support the installation and validation of safety and emergency shutdown systems to ensure personnel and equipment safety.
  • Participate in testing and maintaining safety-critical systems, such as gas detectors, flame sensors, and shutdown valves.
  • Follow organizational safety protocols and participate in training to gain foundational knowledge of safety standards.

Environmental and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining systems that monitor environmental parameters and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
  • Support the preparation of basic reports related to environmental data and regulatory compliance.
  • Learn about environmental best practices and contribute to the implementation of eco-friendly solutions.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of calibration, maintenance, and testing activities for instrumentation systems.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports and maintaining compliance documentation.
  • Support senior engineers in creating and updating operational procedures.

Learning and Development:

  • Attend training programs and workshops to build foundational knowledge of instrumentation in the oil and gas industry.
  • Gain familiarity with industry standards, including API, IEC, and ISA guidelines.
  • Develop technical skills by shadowing senior engineers and participating in hands-on projects.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Process Control: Assist in maintaining instrumentation for efficient drilling, refining, and extraction processes.
  • SCADA Systems: Support pipeline management through SCADA system configuration and monitoring.
  • Safety Systems: Contribute to the maintenance and testing of safety and emergency shutdown mechanisms.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to environmental and industry regulations.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of instrumentation systems, including sensors, transmitters, and controllers.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and industrial automation is advantageous.
  • Awareness of safety protocols and environmental regulations in oil and gas operations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret basic system data and identify anomalies.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office tools for documentation and reporting.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Basic training or certification in SCADA systems or safety instrumentation is desirable.

Experience:

  • No prior experience required; internships or academic projects related to instrumentation in oil and gas are beneficial.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with basic diagnostic tools like multimeters, loop calibrators, and pressure gauges.
  • Exposure to SCADA software platforms like Siemens WinCC, Honeywell Experion, or ABB is a plus.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with senior engineers and team members.
  • Willingness to work in field environments and adapt to dynamic conditions in oil and gas operations.
