Job Title: Medical Device Controls Engineer

Job Summary:

The Medical Device Controls Engineer at the fresher level is responsible for assisting in the design, development, testing, and implementation of control systems for medical devices. This role involves gaining hands-on experience with control algorithms, sensor integration, and regulatory compliance. The engineer works under supervision to ensure that medical devices meet safety, performance, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Control System Design and Implementation:

  • Assist in developing control algorithms for medical devices to ensure precise and reliable operation.
  • Support the integration of sensors, actuators, and embedded systems in device control systems.
  • Perform basic coding and testing of control logic to meet performance specifications.

System Testing and Validation:

  • Conduct functional and performance testing of control systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Document test results and identify areas for improvement in system design.
  • Support the development of validation protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Troubleshooting and Debugging:

  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving issues related to control systems during development and testing phases.
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify problems and provide input for corrective actions.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Gain an understanding of medical device regulatory standards, including FDA, ISO 13485, and IEC 60601.
  • Ensure control system design adheres to safety and compliance requirements.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and quality assurance teams, to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support technical documentation and reporting for internal and external reviews.

Learning and Development:

  • Build foundational knowledge of medical device control systems, including feedback loops, sensor integration, and embedded systems.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance technical and regulatory understanding.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in medical device control systems.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Control Algorithm Development: Support the design and testing of control systems for medical devices.
  • System Testing and Debugging: Assist in troubleshooting issues and validating system performance.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Learn and follow safety and compliance standards for medical devices.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of control systems, including PID loops, sensors, and actuators.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C, C++, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers is an advantage.
  • Awareness of medical device regulations and safety standards (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 60601).
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to support troubleshooting and debugging tasks.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Basic coursework or certifications in control systems, embedded systems, or medical device development are beneficial.

Experience:

  • No prior experience required; internships or academic projects involving control systems or medical devices are advantageous.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Exposure to tools for control system simulation and design, such as MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Familiarity with hardware tools like oscilloscopes, signal generators, and multimeters.
  • Basic knowledge of version control systems like Git is a plus.
