Job Title: Mechanical Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Technician to lead and perform advanced maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting tasks for mechanical systems and equipment. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing mechanical operations, guiding junior and mid-level technicians, and ensuring that all systems are functioning at peak performance. Your expertise will be instrumental in solving complex mechanical issues, supporting large-scale projects, and maintaining safety and efficiency throughout operations. This role requires strong leadership, advanced technical skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Advanced Maintenance and Repairs:

    • Lead the maintenance, repair, and optimization of mechanical systems, including engines, propulsion systems, compressors, pumps, and motors.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical issues with a deep understanding of mechanical systems and equipment, ensuring quick and efficient solutions.
    • Perform in-depth repairs and overhauls of mechanical components and systems to restore equipment functionality and reliability.
    • Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed in compliance with safety standards and industry regulations.
  2. System Diagnostics and Performance Monitoring:

    • Use advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify malfunctions and inefficiencies in mechanical systems, ensuring optimal performance.
    • Conduct detailed inspections, analyze system data, and monitor machinery to identify early signs of wear or potential failure.
    • Provide recommendations for system improvements and preventive maintenance to extend the lifespan and improve the performance of equipment.
  3. Leadership and Mentorship:

    • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level technicians, providing technical expertise and ensuring high standards of work and safety.
    • Provide on-the-job training, teaching less experienced staff mechanical procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and safety protocols.
    • Lead the team in complex repair and maintenance projects, offering direction, support, and guidance throughout the process.
  4. Project Leadership and Execution:

    • Lead mechanical aspects of large-scale projects such as new installations, system upgrades, and machinery replacement, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
    • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to plan and execute projects, ensuring that all mechanical work aligns with project objectives and operational goals.
    • Manage the allocation of resources (tools, equipment, parts) for major projects and ensure the efficient execution of tasks.
  5. Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

    • Maintain a high standard of safety across all mechanical operations, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety standards, regulations, and environmental policies.
    • Lead safety audits and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
    • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure that team members follow safety guidelines during maintenance and repair activities.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, maintenance, and testing performed on equipment and systems.
    • Prepare detailed reports on mechanical failures, repairs, and performance, providing clear and actionable recommendations.
    • Assist in maintaining an inventory of mechanical parts and supplies, tracking usage, and ensuring that critical parts are available when needed.
  7. Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

    • Identify opportunities for improving maintenance processes, enhancing system performance, and reducing operational costs.
    • Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in mechanical systems, diagnostic tools, and best practices, integrating new technologies into the team’s workflows.
    • Contribute to the development of operational strategies and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring mechanical systems run at maximum efficiency.

  1. Advanced Mechanical Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

    • Lead the troubleshooting and repair of complex mechanical systems, ensuring high performance and minimal downtime.
  2. Leadership and Mentorship:

    • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level technicians, promoting technical development and ensuring the completion of high-quality work.
  3. Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure all work meets safety standards and compliance with relevant industry regulations, promoting a safety-first culture.
  4. System Optimization and Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities for system improvements, reduce costs, and implement advanced maintenance strategies to optimize performance.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
    • Additional certifications in mechanical systems, safety, or specific equipment brands (e.g., Volvo Penta, Cummins) are advantageous.
  2. Experience:

    • 5-8 years of hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance and repair, with a deep understanding of mechanical systems such as engines, pumps, motors, and auxiliary systems.
    • Proven experience troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical issues, both independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong background in working with diagnostic tools, performing inspections, and managing preventive maintenance routines.
  3. Skills:

    • Expertise in diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical systems and equipment, with advanced knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
    • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with the ability to guide and support less experienced team members.
    • Proficient in the use of mechanical tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance software.
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work under pressure and manage urgent repairs.
    • Strong communication skills, capable of effectively working with cross-functional teams, management, and clients.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping) certification or equivalent.
    • First Aid, CPR, and other relevant certifications.
    • Mechanical-specific certifications, such as engine maintenance or specialized system certifications.
