The Senior Mechanical Supervisor – HVAC Maintenance is a key leadership role responsible for managing large-scale HVAC maintenance operations in industrial, commercial, or institutional environments. This individual oversees multi-facility or complex-site HVAC systems, leads a team of supervisors and technicians, and ensures operational reliability, compliance, and energy efficiency. The Senior Supervisor works closely with facilities engineering, environmental health & safety (EHS), controls, and senior management to align maintenance practices with long-term asset performance and operational excellence goals.
Lead and manage HVAC mechanical maintenance operations across multiple buildings or a large, complex site.
Define maintenance strategies, priorities, and KPIs in alignment with operational and sustainability goals.
Oversee planning and execution of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
Supervise mid-level supervisors, lead technicians, and contracted service providers.
Mentor team members, conduct performance evaluations, and lead skills development initiatives.
Ensure adequate staffing, training, and resource allocation for critical systems and seasonal demand.
Ensure reliable operation of chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handling units, VAVs, pumps, and control systems.
Lead root cause analysis and long-term corrective actions for recurring mechanical failures.
Collaborate with engineering teams to implement upgrades, retrofits, and energy-saving initiatives.
Ensure full compliance with OSHA, ASHRAE, local codes, and company EHS policies.
Oversee inspections, audits, and certifications (e.g., pressure vessels, refrigerant management).
Lead risk assessments, safety meetings, and incident investigations.
Manage CMMS utilization for work order tracking, asset performance, and maintenance history.
Oversee HVAC spare parts inventory, supplier coordination, and service contract management.
Participate in long-term capital planning, equipment lifecycle analysis, and budget forecasting.
Provide executive-level reporting on maintenance metrics, operational risk, and system health.
Act as HVAC maintenance liaison with senior leadership, plant operations, and sustainability teams.
Ensure timely communication of maintenance outages, emergencies, and recovery plans.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field (preferred)
Associate degree with strong field experience may be considered
8–12+ years of HVAC mechanical maintenance experience
3–5 years in a senior or multi-site supervisory role in a manufacturing, healthcare, or institutional environment
Experience managing large central plants, building automation systems, and energy-efficient HVAC systems
Deep technical knowledge of HVAC mechanical systems and maintenance best practices
Expertise in CMMS systems, regulatory standards (OSHA, ASHRAE, EPA), and energy management
Strong leadership, planning, and decision-making abilities
Effective communication skills and ability to influence at all organizational levels
Familiarity with capital budgeting, asset lifecycle analysis, and contractor/vendor management
