Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our team and lead the maintenance efforts for critical mechanical systems and equipment. As a senior-level engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization, and repair of mechanical systems across the facility. You will also manage preventive maintenance programs, lead complex repair projects, provide technical leadership to junior engineers and technicians, and ensure the efficient and safe operation of all mechanical equipment. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments to ensure operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Technical Expertise:
- Lead the mechanical maintenance team, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior engineers and technicians.
- Oversee and manage the performance of mechanical systems and ensure they operate at optimal efficiency.
- Provide expert troubleshooting and diagnostic support for complex mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, HVAC systems, conveyors, and other critical equipment.
Preventive Maintenance and System Optimization:
- Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) programs for mechanical equipment, ensuring they meet operational and safety standards.
- Analyze system performance data to identify trends, inefficiencies, or potential issues, and implement solutions to optimize equipment performance and reduce downtime.
- Continuously monitor mechanical systems and initiate improvements, modifications, or upgrades to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve reliability.
Project Management and Execution:
- Manage and execute complex mechanical maintenance projects, including equipment installations, upgrades, and replacements, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, safety, procurement) to ensure seamless execution of maintenance projects.
- Develop detailed project plans, allocate resources, track progress, and address any project-related issues that arise.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all mechanical maintenance activities comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
- Lead safety audits and risk assessments for mechanical systems, identifying potential hazards and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure that all mechanical systems include appropriate safety features and that personnel are properly trained on safety protocols.
Continuous Improvement and Cost Reduction:
- Lead initiatives to improve maintenance practices, including the integration of lean methodologies and best practices to improve operational efficiency and reduce maintenance costs.
- Develop and implement strategies to extend equipment lifespan, reduce unscheduled downtime, and improve the overall reliability of mechanical systems.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as production and operations, to align maintenance efforts with business objectives and production goals.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all mechanical maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, parts replacements, and system modifications.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on maintenance activities, equipment status, and performance metrics to senior management.
- Ensure that all documentation related to mechanical systems, maintenance procedures, and compliance standards is current and accessible.
Vendor and Contractor Management:
- Oversee the work of external contractors and vendors during equipment repairs, installations, or other maintenance activities, ensuring that work is performed to specification and within budget.
- Negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships for the procurement of mechanical parts, tools, and services.
Training and Development:
- Provide training and development opportunities for junior engineers and maintenance staff to enhance their technical skills and ensure high standards of work.
- Stay updated with industry advancements, new technologies, and innovations in mechanical maintenance and share knowledge with the team.

Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Advanced certifications in mechanical systems, maintenance management, or project management (e.g., PMP) are a plus.
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical maintenance engineering, with a strong background in maintaining and optimizing complex mechanical systems.
- At least 3 years of experience in a leadership or senior engineering role, overseeing teams and managing projects.
- Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or heavy equipment environment is highly desirable.
Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, HVAC, conveyors, and automated machinery.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues.
- Strong project management skills, with experience overseeing maintenance projects and managing budgets, timelines, and resources.
- Excellent leadership and mentoring abilities, with a focus on team development and collaboration.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance for mechanical systems (e.g., OSHA, ANSI, ISO).
- Proficiency in maintenance management software (e.g., CMMS) and CAD tools for system design and layout.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification.
- Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement certifications.
- Certifications related to mechanical systems or HVAC systems are beneficial.
