Job Title: Mechanical Helper
Job Summary:
We are looking for a Junior Mechanical Helper to join our team and support mechanical operations by assisting in the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems and equipment. This is an entry-level position where you will work under the guidance of experienced mechanics to develop your skills and knowledge in mechanical maintenance and repair. As a Junior Mechanical Helper, you will perform basic tasks, support more experienced staff with mechanical work, and help ensure a safe and organized work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assisting in Mechanical Maintenance:
- Assist senior mechanics with routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting mechanical systems.
- Help disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble machinery components such as engines, pumps, and motors.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance checks on machinery and equipment, ensuring systems are functioning properly.
Troubleshooting and Support:
- Assist in troubleshooting basic mechanical issues, such as checking for leaks, wear, and damage to equipment.
- Help diagnose mechanical failures by observing system behaviors and following the guidance of senior mechanics to determine the source of the issue.
- Learn to use diagnostic tools and equipment to check machinery, and participate in resolving mechanical problems.
Supporting Installation and Repair Work:
- Assist with the installation and removal of mechanical parts and equipment, ensuring proper handling and securing of components.
- Work with senior mechanics to perform minor repairs and adjustments on mechanical systems, learning about best practices and repair procedures.
- Help maintain tools and equipment used in repair and installation work, ensuring that everything is in good condition and ready for use.
Learning and Skill Development:
- Take an active role in learning the fundamentals of mechanical systems and repair techniques under the guidance of more experienced mechanics.
- Develop practical skills in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment, with the aim of improving proficiency in mechanical tasks.
- Stay up to date on company procedures and safety standards to ensure proper work practices are followed at all times.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow safety protocols and ensure that work is done in compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
- Use the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and take responsibility for maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to supervisors to ensure that corrective actions are taken quickly.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of work completed, parts used, and any observations during maintenance and repairs.
- Help prepare basic maintenance reports and update maintenance logs to ensure full documentation of all work performed.
- Follow up on outstanding issues and assist in tracking the progress of ongoing repair and maintenance tasks.

Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in mechanical or industrial engineering is a plus.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems or interest in developing a career in the mechanical field is preferred.
Experience:
- 1-2 years of prior professional experience is required, though any relevant coursework or internships in mechanical work or equipment maintenance is advantageous.
- Interest in learning and growing in the mechanical field.
Skills:
- Basic mechanical aptitude, with the desire to learn and develop practical mechanical skills.
- Ability to work with tools and equipment, including hand tools and power tools.
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
Certifications (Preferred):
- STCW Basic Safety Training or equivalent certification is a plus, but not required.
- First Aid and CPR certification are beneficial.
- Any technical or mechanical certifications, though not required, would be a plus.
