Job Title: Mechanical Fitter 

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Mid-Level Oil and Gas / Power Plant Mechanical Fitter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment used in oil and gas or power plant operations. As a mid-level fitter, you will perform complex mechanical tasks with minimal supervision, troubleshoot mechanical systems, and mentor junior team members. You will work to ensure that all mechanical systems operate efficiently and reliably while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Mechanical Installation and Maintenance:

    • Install, maintain, and repair mechanical systems and equipment such as pumps, valves, compressors, turbines, and engines in oil and gas or power plant operations.
    • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment to minimize downtime and maximize performance.
    • Ensure proper installation and configuration of mechanical systems according to project specifications and industry standards.
  2. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

    • Troubleshoot mechanical faults, identify root causes of issues, and apply diagnostic tools, manuals, and hands-on inspections.
    • Perform repairs or replacements on malfunctioning mechanical systems or components.
    • Work with the operations and engineering teams to resolve system failures and improve operational efficiencies.
  3. Quality Control and Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies during all mechanical work.
    • Inspect mechanical systems and components to verify that they meet performance standards and specifications.
    • Follow industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI) throughout installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and parts used.
    • Prepare detailed reports on system conditions, equipment performance, and recommendations for improvements.
    • Document and report any safety or operational issues to management, offering corrective actions when necessary.
  5. Team Collaboration and Mentorship:

    • Collaborate closely with technicians, engineers, and operations staff to ensure that mechanical tasks are completed on time and according to project timelines.
    • Mentor junior mechanical fitters, providing guidance on maintenance procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and safety practices.
    • Assist in training new team members, ensuring they have the necessary skills for their roles.
  6. Safety and Risk Management:

    • Adhere to safety regulations and best practices during all mechanical activities.
    • Participate in safety audits, hazard assessments, and risk mitigation strategies to promote a safe work environment.
    • Consistently use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety protocols to minimize risks.
  7. Continuous Improvement:

    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve mechanical processes, increase system reliability, and reduce downtime.
    • Stay up-to-date on the latest technological advancements, tools, and techniques in mechanical fitting and maintenance for oil and gas and power plant industries.

  • Troubleshooting Expertise: Efficiently identify and resolve mechanical faults to restore equipment functionality.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all relevant safety regulations and ensure compliance during all mechanical work.
  • Team Collaboration and Mentorship: Contribute to team success by working collaboratively and mentoring junior fitters.
  • Operational Excellence: Apply innovative methods to enhance the performance and reliability of mechanical systems.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; technical diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
    • Additional certifications in mechanical fitting, welding, or safety are highly desirable.
  2. Experience:

    • 5+ years of experience in mechanical fitting and maintenance, specifically in oil and gas or power plant industries.
    • Hands-on experience with mechanical systems such as pumps, turbines, compressors, engines, and related equipment.
    • Proven track record in troubleshooting and performing repairs on industrial mechanical systems.
  3. Skills:

    • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
    • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and instruments for assessing mechanical systems.
    • Attention to detail, delivering high-quality work in precision tasks.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure, meeting deadlines while maintaining a focus on safety and quality.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • API, ASME, or other relevant certifications in mechanical fitting for oil and gas or power plant industries.
    • Welding or pipefitting certifications are a plus.
    • OSHA, First Aid, or other safety certifications.
