Roles & Responsibilities

The Senior Mechanical Fabrication Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all shop-floor and site-based fabrication activities, ensuring timely, high-quality, and safe fabrication of mechanical components such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, skids, piping spools, and structural assemblies. This role leads teams of welders, fitters, and fabricators, ensuring alignment with technical drawings, welding procedures, and project timelines. The senior supervisor plays a key leadership role in interfacing with QA/QC, planning, procurement, and safety teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership of Fabrication Operations:

    • Supervise and coordinate all mechanical fabrication activities across multiple bays or project sites.

    • Guide and mentor supervisors, chargehands, welders, and fitters.

  2. Workforce & Production Management:

    • Assign daily tasks, monitor performance, and optimize workforce productivity.

    • Ensure equipment, tools, and consumables are available and maintained.

  3. Quality & Technical Compliance:

    • Ensure fabrication is done per design, WPS/PQRs, and relevant standards (ASME, AWS, ISO).

    • Interface with QA/QC for inspections, NDT coordination, and client witness activities.

  4. Safety & Compliance Enforcement:

    • Enforce HSE policies, conduct daily toolbox talks, and ensure job safety analysis (JSA) compliance.

    • Take immediate corrective actions on safety violations or near misses.

  5. Project & Schedule Coordination:

    • Align fabrication progress with project schedules, coordinate with planning and engineering teams.

    • Flag delays, bottlenecks, or non-conformance issues to project management.

  6. Documentation & Reporting:

    • Maintain records of fabrication progress, NCRs, inspection reports, material consumption, and manpower utilization.

    • Submit daily and weekly reports to senior management.

  7. Vendor/Subcontractor Oversight (if applicable):

    • Supervise third-party vendors or fabrication subcontractors to ensure quality and timeline adherence.

  • High-Quality Fabrication: Delivery of defect-free products with strict adherence to technical drawings and codes.

  • Leadership on the Floor: Driving team performance and fostering a disciplined, safety-first environment.

  • Schedule Adherence: Meeting fabrication milestones without compromising safety or quality.

  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Coordinating closely with QA/QC, Planning, Procurement, and EHS.

  • Lean Operations: Minimizing waste, rework, and inefficiencies in the fabrication process.


Required Skills & Competencies:

Technical Proficiency:

  • In-depth knowledge of fabrication and welding techniques (SMAW, GTAW, SAW, FCAW).

  • Strong understanding of fabrication codes: ASME Section VIII, B31.3, AWS D1.1, ISO 3834, etc.

  • Ability to interpret complex engineering and isometric drawings.

Supervisory & Leadership Skills:

  • Proven experience managing large fabrication crews and multiple projects.

  • Strong planning, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.

Quality & Safety Focus:

  • Well-versed in quality assurance practices, inspection points, and documentation.

  • Committed to enforcing HSE policies and incident prevention.

Communication & Reporting:

  • Effective verbal and written communication with cross-functional teams and client reps.

  • Capable of preparing progress reports and attending project review meetings.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Fabrication Technology.

  • Certifications:

    • CSWIP 3.1 / AWS CWI / NDT Level II (preferred)

    • NEBOSH / IOSH / equivalent safety certification (advantageous)

  • Experience: Minimum 10–15 years of experience in mechanical fabrication, with at least 5 years in a senior supervisory or leadership role in heavy fabrication, oil & gas, power, infrastructure, or EPC industries.
