The Junior Mechanical Design Engineer supports the design and drafting of fabricated systems—including pressure vessels, skid-mounted units, structural frames, and piping assemblies—used in water and wastewater treatment facilities. This entry-level position is ideal for candidates looking to build technical experience in mechanical design, fabrication detailing, and water treatment system integration.
Prepare 2D drawings and 3D models for fabricated mechanical components including tanks, frames, and skid systems.
Create fabrication-ready deliverables such as part drawings, BOMs, and weldment assemblies.
Assist in designing mechanical layouts based on P&IDs, flow diagrams, and process requirements.
Work under the guidance of senior engineers to develop cost-effective and manufacturable designs.
Perform basic calculations (e.g., wall thickness, nozzle sizing, load analysis) with provided tools or templates.
Support the engineering change process by updating documentation and revising CAD files.
Coordinate with fabrication teams to understand shop practices and assembly constraints.
Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from QA/QC, fabrication, and operations teams.
Work with project engineers to align designs with project timelines and specifications.
Ensure compliance with relevant design standards (e.g., ASME Section VIII, AWS D1.1, ANSI/ISA) where applicable.
Maintain proper file management, version control, and drawing records in the design database.
Drafting and modeling of fabricated mechanical assemblies
Support for pressure vessel, skid, and frame design
Learning and applying water treatment mechanical standards
Collaborative teamwork in a fast-paced project environment
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design Technology, or a related field
Associate degree in Mechanical Drafting or CAD with internship experience may also be considered
Experience:
0–2 years of experience in mechanical design or drafting
Internship or academic project experience in piping, pressure vessels, or skid-mounted equipment is a plus
Skills:
Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software
Basic understanding of mechanical fabrication processes (welding, machining, assembly)
Familiarity with engineering standards such as ASME, ANSI, and AWS
Good communication, organization, and willingness to learn from senior engineers
