The Mechanical Fabrication Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of mechanical fabrication activities in a power plant setting, including the fabrication of pressure parts, piping systems, structural supports, ducts, tanks, and ancillary equipment. This role ensures high standards of quality, safety, productivity, and regulatory compliance across shop and site-based fabrication activities. The manager leads multi-disciplinary teams and coordinates with engineering, QA/QC, procurement, and project execution departments to meet critical project timelines and specifications.
Lead and manage fabrication of mechanical components such as boiler pressure parts, heat exchangers, process piping, ducting, and skids.
Ensure compliance with fabrication codes and standards (ASME, AWS, ISO, AISC).
Review and interpret fabrication drawings, welding maps, and material specifications.
Collaborate with project engineers and planners to develop fabrication schedules aligned with construction timelines.
Allocate manpower and resources effectively to meet delivery milestones.
Coordinate with site installation teams to ensure seamless handover of fabricated items.
Oversee both workshop and field fabrication operations, ensuring safe and efficient work practices.
Supervise foremen, welders, fitters, riggers, and helpers across multiple shifts as needed.
Monitor equipment usage, maintenance needs, and workflow bottlenecks.
Ensure adherence to welding procedures, material traceability, dimensional tolerances, and inspection protocols.
Work closely with QA/QC teams for NDT, hydrotesting, and final acceptance of fabricated components.
Maintain fabrication records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
Enforce workplace safety practices in line with OSHA, local HSE regulations, and corporate standards.
Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
Lead incident investigations and promote a proactive safety culture.
Train and mentor fabrication supervisors, technicians, and welders to improve technical capabilities.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, cost control, and quality.
Identify skill gaps and support certification programs (e.g., ASME, AWS welder qualifications).
