Job Title: Mechanical Engineer – Supply Chain Interface (Valve Specs, QA, RFQs)

Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer – Supply Chain Interface ensures technical integrity, compliance, and efficiency in the procurement process for valves and mechanical components. This role acts as a key liaison between engineering, procurement, and supplier QA/QC teams to support accurate RFQs, effective supplier evaluations, and inspection planning. The ideal candidate brings technical acumen, supplier engagement experience, and working knowledge of global codes and standards (API, ASME, ISO).

Key Responsibilities

🔧 Engineering Support for Procurement

  • Prepare and review valve specifications, datasheets, and technical drawings for RFQ packages.

  • Evaluate vendor technical proposals and support Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs) for mechanical and piping components (valves, strainers, actuators, etc.).

  • Ensure compliance of RFQs and POs with applicable codes (API 6D, ASME B16.34, ISO 5208, etc.) and project requirements.

📑 Technical Document Control

  • Review and validate supplier drawings, datasheets, quality documentation, and compliance certificates.

  • Coordinate technical clarifications with vendors and internal stakeholders during bid and execution stages.

  • Assist in managing deviation requests, engineering comments, and document revisions.

QA/QC & Supplier Interface

  • Participate in Pre-Inspection Meetings (PIMs) and support the creation or review of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).

  • Verify Material Test Certificates (MTCs), welding documentation, and dimensional reports as per QA standards.

  • Monitor supplier performance and coordinate resolution of technical NCRs and deviations.

🧩 Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with supply chain, project engineering, and quality teams to align procurement timelines, equipment readiness, and inspection milestones.

  • Support supplier qualification and audits from an engineering standpoint where needed.

  • Contribute to value engineering and cost-saving initiatives through specification optimization or alternate sourcing.


Qualifications

🎓 Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Required)

  • Additional certification in QA/QC, Procurement, or API/ASME-related training is a plus

📅 Experience

  • 3–7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, technical procurement, or QA/QC—preferably within process equipment, valves, rotating machinery, or heavy fabrication supply chains.


Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of mechanical codes and standards: API, ASME, ASTM, NACE, ISO

  • Experience with RFQ package development, TBEs, and supplier document reviews

  • Familiarity with ERP and procurement tools (SAP, Oracle, Maximo, etc.)

  • Proficient in reading P&IDs, isometrics, and fabrication drawings

  • Strong interpersonal and coordination skills

  • Attention to detail and technical documentation management

  • Exposure to inspection and test planning for mechanical components
