Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer (Food Processing) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will assist in designing, maintaining, and optimizing mechanical systems and equipment used in food processing plants. As a junior engineer, you will work under the guidance of senior engineers, gaining hands-on experience in the food processing sector. You will support maintenance activities, system design improvements, and troubleshooting efforts to ensure smooth and efficient operations in a food manufacturing environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting in Piping and Mechanical System Design:

    • Support senior engineers in designing and maintaining mechanical systems and piping layouts for food processing plants.
    • Assist in developing mechanical system schematics and technical specifications to improve food processing efficiency.
    • Help in selecting and sourcing materials for systems, ensuring that equipment meets operational and food safety standards.
  2. Maintenance Support and Troubleshooting:

    • Assist in performing routine inspections and maintenance on machinery, including conveyors, mixers, pumps, and packaging equipment.
    • Troubleshoot mechanical issues, helping identify root causes and supporting repairs to minimize downtime.
    • Support in implementing preventive maintenance schedules to ensure machinery and equipment function efficiently, reducing the risk of breakdowns.
  3. Process Optimization:

    • Collaborate with senior engineers to help improve food production processes and system designs to optimize equipment performance.
    • Assist in the design, testing, and modification of equipment to improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
    • Monitor mechanical systems to identify potential inefficiencies and suggest improvements.
  4. Compliance with Safety Standards:

    • Ensure all mechanical systems are designed and operated in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    • Assist with safety audits and risk assessments, ensuring adherence to food safety regulations such as HACCP and FDA standards.
    • Support the development and implementation of safety protocols for equipment operation and maintenance.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of design, inspection, and maintenance activities.
    • Document machinery specifications, maintenance logs, and troubleshooting activities for future reference.
    • Prepare technical reports, summarizing findings and suggesting improvements or modifications.
  6. Learning and Skill Development:

    • Participate in on-the-job training, learning about food processing systems, equipment maintenance, and engineering best practices.
    • Work closely with senior engineers to gain hands-on experience with mechanical systems, gaining practical skills in troubleshooting, system optimization, and design modifications.
    • Attend industry-related workshops, conferences, and training programs to stay updated with the latest food processing technologies.

  1. Mechanical System Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

    • Assist with the maintenance of mechanical systems used in food processing to ensure they are running smoothly and efficiently.
  2. Food Processing Equipment Optimization:

    • Support senior engineers in optimizing food processing equipment for better performance and operational efficiency.
  3. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that food processing machinery operates in compliance with industry safety standards and food safety regulations.
  4. Learning and Development:

    • Focus on skill-building through hands-on experience and guidance from senior engineers to gain deeper expertise in food processing mechanical systems.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
    • Basic understanding of food processing systems, mechanical systems, or machinery design is a plus.
  2. Experience:

    • 1-2 years prior professional experience required; this is an entry-level position suitable for recent graduates or those with some hands-on experience in mechanical systems.
    • Any internships, academic projects, or experience in food manufacturing, mechanical maintenance, or engineering design is beneficial.
  3. Skills:

    • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, with a strong interest in food processing and manufacturing technologies.
    • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) is a plus for design tasks.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
    • Good communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow engineering guidelines and safety protocols.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Any relevant certifications in food safety, mechanical systems, or manufacturing processes are advantageous.
    • Safety-related certifications such as OSHA are a plus.
