We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to assist in the development and design of marine equipment and structural systems used in shipbuilding and offshore applications. The ideal candidate will support senior engineers in preparing 2D/3D models, design documentation, and calculations for components such as lifting frames, hull structures, foundations, and mechanical assemblies. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals to gain experience in marine mechanical design and structural integration.
Support the design and modeling of mechanical components and structures used in marine vessels and offshore equipment.
Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models using software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Siemens NX.
Assist in performing basic calculations for strength, weight, material selection, and mechanical fitment.
Participate in the preparation of bills of materials (BOM), manufacturing drawings, and technical specifications.
Support design reviews, verification processes, and documentation updates as per project and classification requirements.
Coordinate with fabrication, production, and quality teams to resolve design or assembly-related issues.
Follow design standards, safety codes, and class society rules (e.g., ABS, DNV, Lloyd's).
Maintain proper documentation of designs and revision control using PDM/PLM systems.
3D Modeling & Drafting: Develop accurate CAD models and fabrication drawings for marine structures and mechanical components.
Basic Structural & Mechanical Calculations: Apply engineering fundamentals to support stress, load, and fitment evaluations.
Marine Equipment Design Exposure: Learn about marine systems like winches, davits, hatch covers, hull outfitting, and support frames.
Compliance & Standards: Understand and apply international marine codes and classification society standards to designs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with production, procurement, and quality teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical / Marine Engineering or related field.
0–2 years of experience in mechanical design (marine or structural industry preferred).
Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
Basic knowledge of mechanical and structural design principles.
Good communication skills and a willingness to learn from senior engineers.
Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple design tasks.
Internship or academic project experience in shipbuilding or offshore mechanical design.
Exposure to FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) is a plus.
Familiarity with ISO, ASME, or marine class standards (ABS, DNV, BV).
