Job Title: Mid-Level Aerospace Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Mid-Level Aerospace Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems, components, and structures for aerospace applications. With a solid foundation in aerospace mechanical design, you will apply your engineering skills to create, test, and optimize aerospace systems. You will work closely with senior engineers and other disciplines to integrate your designs into larger aerospace systems, ensuring that your designs meet performance, safety, and manufacturability standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Mechanical Design and Modeling:

    • Design and develop mechanical components and systems for aerospace applications, including propulsion systems, aircraft structures, landing gear, and control systems.
    • Use CAD software (such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD) to create detailed 3D models, drawings, and assembly instructions.
    • Generate and refine technical specifications for mechanical components, ensuring compliance with aerospace industry standards and project requirements.
  2. Engineering Analysis and Simulation:

    • Perform structural, thermal, and fluid dynamics analyses on aerospace components using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools.
    • Apply engineering principles to validate designs for stress, strain, fatigue, and other performance parameters.
    • Conduct simulations to predict component behavior under various operational conditions and refine designs based on simulation results.
  3. Prototyping and Testing:

    • Lead the design and fabrication of prototypes for new mechanical components and systems.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of physical tests to validate the performance and reliability of designs.
    • Analyze test results and use feedback to improve and optimize mechanical designs.
  4. Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams:

    • Work closely with other engineering teams, including electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure that mechanical components integrate smoothly into larger aerospace systems.
    • Coordinate with manufacturing teams to ensure that designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and collaborate on design solutions.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including detailed drawings, specifications, and design reports.
    • Ensure that all documentation is clear, accurate, and in compliance with internal and external standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Provide regular updates to project managers and senior engineers on design progress, challenges, and timelines.
  6. Design Optimization and Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product performance.
    • Incorporate feedback from testing and field data to improve designs in future iterations.
    • Stay current with advancements in aerospace engineering, new materials, and design technologies.
  7. Mentoring and Support:

    • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on technical aspects of mechanical design, CAD modeling, and engineering analysis.
    • Provide support and review work produced by junior engineers to ensure that designs are of high quality and meet project requirements.
  8. Compliance and Safety:

    • Ensure that all designs comply with industry regulations, such as FAA standards, aerospace design standards (e.g., ASME, SAE), and environmental requirements.
    • Maintain a strong focus on safety, ensuring that designs meet rigorous safety standards and performance expectations.

Key Focus Areas:

Aerodynamics:
  • Assist in optimizing aerodynamic systems for aircraft or spacecraft performance using modeling software.
Propulsion Systems:
  • Contribute to the development and testing of propulsion systems, focusing on efficiency and reliability.
Structural Engineering:
  • Design and test structural components to ensure strength, durability, and safety.
Systems Integration:
  • Support integration of mechanical, electrical, and avionics systems to ensure seamless operation.
Stress and Fatigue Analysis:
  • Perform analysis on components to ensure they can withstand operational stresses and fatigue.
Quality Assurance & Control:
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards through inspections, testing protocols, and quality control procedures.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
    • 3–5 years of experience in aerospace mechanical design or a related field.
  2. Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD for 3D modeling and technical drawing.
    • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and structural analysis.
    • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools for design validation.
    • Familiarity with aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and quality standards.
    • Ability to perform engineering calculations and simulations to evaluate the performance of mechanical components.
  3. Soft Skills:

    • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for clear reporting and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Certification in CAD software (e.g., Certified SolidWorks Professional).
    • Certification in Finite Element Analysis (e.g., ANSYS or similar tools) or related fields.
    • Knowledge of industry-specific standards (e.g., ASME, SAE, FAA) is a plus.
