Job Title: Material Handling Engineer
Job Summary:
We are looking for a Junior Material Handling Engineer to join our team and support the design, optimization, and implementation of material handling systems in our operations. In this entry-level role, you will assist senior engineers in creating efficient material handling solutions to improve operational performance, reduce costs, and ensure safety in warehouse and production environments. You will gain hands-on experience with automated systems, conveyors, forklifts, and other material handling technologies, while contributing to the success of large-scale projects and daily operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Assisting in the Design of Material Handling Systems:
- Support the design, layout, and optimization of material handling systems, including conveyors, automated sorting systems, storage systems, and material transport solutions.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to analyze operational needs and develop customized material handling solutions.
- Help prepare system layouts and design specifications, ensuring the efficient flow of materials through production and warehouse areas.
Data Collection and Analysis:
- Assist in gathering data on material handling processes and systems, including performance metrics, operational bottlenecks, and inefficiencies.
- Use software tools to analyze system performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Help create reports and presentations based on data analysis to communicate findings and recommendations to senior engineers and management.
Testing and Implementation:
- Assist in the testing and installation of material handling equipment, ensuring that new systems are properly integrated into existing processes.
- Support the commissioning and troubleshooting of new material handling equipment, ensuring it meets performance and safety standards.
- Help ensure that equipment installations and system configurations are aligned with operational objectives and technical requirements.
Safety and Compliance:
- Assist in ensuring that material handling systems meet safety standards and comply with industry regulations.
- Support the team in evaluating risks and designing safety protocols for material handling systems, such as conveyor belts, lifts, and automated systems.
- Ensure that safety features are integrated into the design of systems, such as emergency stop buttons and overload protection.
Maintenance Support and Troubleshooting:
- Help develop maintenance schedules for material handling systems, assisting in preventive maintenance tasks to minimize downtime.
- Assist in troubleshooting material handling systems by identifying malfunctions and collaborating with senior engineers to implement repairs.
- Work with operations teams to ensure that maintenance schedules are followed and that systems are properly maintained for maximum efficiency.
Learning and Development:
- Participate in on-the-job training programs to improve your knowledge of material handling systems and related technologies.
- Learn about best practices in material handling design, system optimization, and project management.
- Work closely with senior engineers to gain experience and exposure to real-world engineering challenges in material handling systems.

Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Logistics, or a related field.
- Relevant coursework or experience related to material handling systems, automation, or warehouse operations is a plus.
Experience:
- 1-2 years prior experience required; this is an entry-level position ideal for recent graduates or those with internships in engineering or material handling.
- Any practical experience or academic projects related to material handling systems, logistics, or warehouse operations will be beneficial.
Skills:
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and automated systems used in material handling.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) for system design and layout.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with senior engineers, operations staff, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Any certifications related to material handling systems, automation, or safety practices (e.g., OSHA) are a plus.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO or Lean manufacturing is beneficial.
