Job Title: Mass Calibration Engineer

Job Summary:

The Senior Mass Calibration Engineer is responsible for leading complex calibration, testing, and maintenance of mass measurement devices such as balances, standard weights, and load cells. This role involves solving advanced calibration challenges, ensuring compliance with international standards, mentoring junior staff, and driving process optimization. The Senior Engineer also contributes to strategic planning and innovation in mass calibration methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

Calibration and Testing:

  • Lead high-precision calibration of mass measurement instruments, including analytical balances, high-capacity load cells, and weight sets.
  • Validate and certify the performance of mass measurement systems in compliance with ISO 17025 and OIML guidelines.
  • Address and resolve complex calibration discrepancies, implementing corrective actions to maintain accuracy.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation and review of detailed calibration records, test data, and compliance reports.
  • Develop and refine calibration procedures to align with industry standards and organizational goals.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on calibration data to improve operational efficiency.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Perform and supervise preventive maintenance and diagnostics for calibration equipment such as weight comparators and precision balances.
  • Diagnose and resolve critical technical issues in mass measurement systems.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades or replacements to enhance reliability and accuracy.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure all calibration activities comply with international standards such as ISO 17025, NIST, and OIML.
  • Serve as a technical expert during audits, addressing quality and compliance inquiries.
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives to enhance the accuracy and reliability of calibration processes.

Leadership and Team Development:

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical guidance and training on advanced calibration techniques.
  • Lead cross-functional teams on calibration-related projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the calibration team.

Process Optimization and Innovation:

  • Evaluate and optimize calibration workflows to reduce downtime and improve productivity.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in mass calibration and integrate best practices into operations.
  • Drive innovation by developing and implementing new calibration methodologies and tools.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Advanced understanding of mass measurement principles and devices, including analytical balances, weight comparators, and load cells.
  • Expertise in using high-precision calibration tools such as standard weights, weight comparators, and automated mass calibration systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality standards, including ISO 17025, NIST traceability, and OIML guidelines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address complex calibration challenges.
  • Leadership and project management skills to oversee large-scale calibration projects.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced certifications in mass calibration, metrology, or quality systems (e.g., ISO 17025 Lead Auditor) are highly desirable.

  • Avionics and Flight Control Systems

  • Overseeing advanced calibration, troubleshooting, and optimization of avionics and flight control systems to ensure peak performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Safety and Emergency Systems for Aircraft

  • Leading the calibration and validation of mass-related components in aircraft safety and emergency systems, ensuring alignment with stringent safety standards.
  • Precision Instrumentation for Navigation, Communications, and Control

  • Driving the calibration, testing, and integration of precision instruments for navigation, communication, and control systems, ensuring high accuracy and reliability.

Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in mass calibration or related fields.
  • Proven ability to manage complex calibration projects and mentor technical teams.

Tools and Equipment:

  • High-precision calibration tools, including weight comparators, automated mass calibration systems, and load cells.
  • Proficiency in calibration management software and data analytics platforms.

Other Requirements:

  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills to mentor teams and engage with stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining safety, quality, and compliance in calibration operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel for on-site calibration projects or consultations.
