Job Title: Mass Calibration Engineer

Job Summary:

The Mid-Level Mass Calibration Engineer is responsible for independently performing calibration, testing, and maintenance of mass measurement devices such as balances, weights, and load cells. This role involves troubleshooting complex calibration issues, optimizing workflows, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The engineer plays a key role in mentoring junior team members and contributing to process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

Calibration and Testing:

  • Perform advanced calibration of mass measurement instruments, including high-precision balances, weight sets, and load cells.
  • Validate and verify the accuracy and performance of mass measurement systems using standard calibration tools and procedures.
  • Identify and resolve calibration deviations, implementing corrective actions to ensure compliance with standards.

Documentation:

  • Maintain detailed and accurate calibration records, test results, and calibration certificates.
  • Generate calibration reports and provide insights to stakeholders for process optimization.
  • Refine and update calibration procedures to align with regulatory standards and organizational needs.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on calibration tools and equipment such as weight comparators and precision balances.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues in mass measurement systems with minimal supervision.
  • Recommend upgrades or replacements for aging or inefficient calibration equipment.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure calibration activities comply with international standards such as ISO 17025 and OIML guidelines.
  • Adhere to and promote safety protocols during calibration and testing activities.
  • Participate in audits and inspections, addressing non-conformities and implementing corrective measures.

Team Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on calibration-related projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Lead small-scale calibration projects or initiatives, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.

Process Optimization:

  • Evaluate existing calibration workflows and propose improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stay updated on advancements in mass calibration technologies and implement best practices.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Comprehensive understanding of mass measurement principles and devices, including high-precision balances, standard weights, and load cells.
  • Proficiency in using advanced calibration tools such as weight comparators, precision balances, and load testing systems.
  • Familiarity with quality and calibration standards such as ISO 17025 and OIML guidelines.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to address complex issues in mass measurement systems.
  • Analytical and organizational skills to manage multiple calibration tasks effectively.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certification in mass calibration or metrology (e.g., ISO 17025 Lead Auditor) is highly desirable.

  • Leading the calibration and optimization of instruments in avionics and flight control systems to maintain high precision and reliability.
  • Safety and Emergency Systems for Aircraft

  • Managing the calibration and testing of mass-related components in safety and emergency systems, ensuring compliance with aviation standards.
  • Precision Instrumentation for Navigation, Communications, and Control

  • Overseeing the calibration of precision instruments for navigation, communication, and control systems, focusing on accuracy and operational efficiency.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in mass calibration or related fields.
  • Proven ability to handle complex calibration tasks and troubleshoot technical issues independently.

Tools and Equipment:

  • Advanced calibration tools, including weight comparators, precision balances, standard weights, and load cells.
  • Familiarity with calibration management software for scheduling and reporting.
