The Senior Marine Valve Technician leads and executes complex installation, overhaul, and troubleshooting tasks on marine valves across various ship systems. This role demands advanced technical expertise, team supervision, and strong familiarity with class regulations. The technician ensures operational reliability and compliance in shipboard and shipyard environments through precise execution and technical leadership.
Lead installation and commissioning of valves on high-integrity marine fluid systems (fuel, ballast, fire main, bilge, HVAC, etc.).
Manage complete valve overhaul projects, including diagnostics, part procurement, servicing, and quality control.
Supervise dismantling, inspection, and reassembly of valves (gate, globe, check, ball, butterfly, pressure relief, control valves).
Conduct functional testing (hydrostatic, pneumatic, seat leakage) and verify performance against OEM and class standards.
Troubleshoot complex valve failures, including issues related to actuators (pneumatic, electric, hydraulic) and control interfaces.
Interpret and validate system drawings (P&ID), valve schedules, and datasheets.
Ensure proper documentation, including maintenance records, inspection reports, and regulatory compliance checklists.
Liaise with class surveyors (ABS, DNV, BV, USCG, etc.) and ship superintendents for inspections and compliance validation.
Train and mentor junior and mid-level technicians on best practices, safety protocols, and technical procedures.
Advanced Overhaul Expertise: Expert-level knowledge of valve wear diagnostics, precision lapping, seat restoration, actuator calibration, and OEM compliance repairs.
System Integration: Deep understanding of valve interaction within marine systems (e.g., fuel distribution, sea chest, cooling, firefighting).
Quality Assurance: Lead pressure testing, interpret tolerance results, and implement corrective actions per regulatory and class requirements.
Actuation Systems & Control: Hands-on troubleshooting of automated valve systems, including solenoid-operated valves, control signals, and fail-safe mechanisms.
Compliance & Documentation: Ensure adherence to safety regulations (SOLAS, IMO) and maintain traceable maintenance and inspection documentation per class rules.
Project Supervision: Manage multi-valve overhaul scopes during drydock, refits, or emergency repairs; coordinate work permits, manpower, and spares logistics.
Diploma or higher in Marine/Mechanical Engineering or relevant technical trade certification.
6+ years of hands-on experience in marine valve servicing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or senior technician role.
Proven experience with both workshop and onboard repairs.
Familiarity with ABS, DNV, USCG, or equivalent maritime authority standards.
Proficiency with hand tools, precision measuring devices, and testing equipment.
Strong leadership, communication, and troubleshooting abilities.
