Job Title: Marine Surveyor

Job Summary: 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Marine Surveyor to lead and oversee complex surveying projects related to marine structures, vessels, and offshore facilities. As a Senior Marine Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing surveying operations, ensuring the accurate assessment of marine assets, and providing expert recommendations on maintenance, repairs, and upgrades. You will also lead a team of surveyors and collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure that all surveying activities meet regulatory standards, industry best practices, and project goals. Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Project Management:

  • Lead and manage marine surveying projects from start to finish, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate and supervise a team of junior and mid-level surveyors, providing mentorship, guidance, and training to foster professional development and ensure high-quality survey work.
  • Develop and implement survey plans and methodologies, ensuring that all activities are conducted efficiently and accurately.
  • Oversee the preparation of project schedules, manage resources, and ensure the successful execution of complex survey assignments.

Marine Surveying and Inspections:

  • Conduct advanced surveys and inspections of marine assets, including vessels, offshore platforms, docks, piers, breakwaters, and other infrastructure.
  • Use specialized survey equipment (e.g., sonar, underwater drones, laser scanning) to assess the condition, structural integrity, and safety of marine assets.
  • Analyze survey results to identify potential risks, damage, or deterioration and make informed recommendations for repairs, replacements, or further investigations.
  • Provide expert assessments of critical marine structures, including identifying and evaluating issues such as corrosion, cracks, wear, and environmental impacts.

Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting:

  • Collect, process, and analyze data from complex surveys, ensuring that all information is accurate and comprehensive.
  • Lead the preparation of detailed technical reports, including survey results, findings, and recommended courses of action for clients, project stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Present survey findings to senior management, clients, and regulatory authorities, providing clear, concise, and actionable recommendations.
  • Ensure that all survey data and documentation are organized and maintained for future reference and compliance audits.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety Oversight:

  • Ensure all surveying activities comply with local, national, and international safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and industry standards.
  • Review and implement safety protocols for all field operations, ensuring the health and safety of the surveying team and other personnel on-site.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices to maintain compliance and ensure that survey projects are aligned with legal requirements.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities, providing expert advice and support for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure that survey results are integrated into the overall project development, including design and construction phases.
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations to clients, helping them make informed decisions based on survey findings.

Technology and Process Improvement:

  • Lead efforts to incorporate new technologies, equipment, and techniques into surveying operations, enhancing efficiency and the accuracy of survey results.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline survey workflows, reduce project costs, and optimize resource allocation.
  • Maintain and ensure proper calibration of surveying equipment, troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.

Training and Development:

  • Mentor junior and mid-level surveyors, sharing expertise and fostering a collaborative environment for knowledge exchange.
  • Lead internal training sessions to enhance the skills and capabilities of the survey team.
  • Encourage and support continuous professional development through industry certifications, workshops, and conferences.

  • Provide actionable insights to clients and stakeholders, ensuring the integrity and longevity of marine assets.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all surveys meet stringent safety and regulatory standards and that operations are conducted with a strong focus on risk management.

Technology Integration and Process Optimization:

  • Stay at the forefront of marine surveying technologies and best practices, continually enhancing survey methods and workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications in marine surveying (e.g., International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS), Chartered Marine Surveyor) are highly preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in marine surveying, with a focus on complex marine infrastructure projects and vessel inspections.
  • Extensive experience with marine surveying equipment and technologies, including sonar, underwater drones, laser scanners, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Proven track record in managing surveying projects, leading teams, and interacting with clients and regulatory authorities.
  • Expertise in preparing and delivering detailed technical reports, proposals, and presentations to a variety of stakeholders.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of marine surveying techniques, structural integrity assessments, and data collection methods.
  • Proficient in survey data processing and analysis software, including AutoCAD, GIS, and marine-specific software.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, safety standards, and environmental considerations related to marine surveying.

Soft Skills:
