Job Title: Marine Surveyor

Job Summary: 

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Mid-Level Marine Surveyor to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting surveys of marine structures, vessels, and offshore facilities. You will assess the condition and integrity of marine assets, collect and analyze data, and provide technical recommendations for maintenance, repair, or replacement. This role offers an opportunity to build on your surveying expertise and take on more responsibility, while contributing to the success of critical marine projects. You will work closely with senior surveyors and engineers to ensure the safety, reliability, and compliance of marine assets.

Key Responsibilities:

Marine Surveying and Inspections:

  • Perform detailed surveys of marine vessels, offshore platforms, docks, piers, breakwaters, and other marine structures to assess their condition, structural integrity, and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Conduct visual inspections, measurements, and use specialized equipment (e.g., sonar, GPS, and other diagnostic tools) to gather data on the condition of marine infrastructure.
  • Identify and document issues such as corrosion, wear, cracks, and other damage that may affect the structural integrity of marine assets.
  • Provide expert assessments and recommendations for maintenance, repair, or replacement based on survey findings.

Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Collect and compile data from marine surveys, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Analyze collected data to identify trends, risks, or emerging issues in marine assets.
  • Prepare and present technical reports detailing survey results, findings, and proposed solutions for improving asset performance and reducing risk.

Technical Support and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with senior surveyors, engineers, and project managers to provide technical support and contribute to the successful completion of marine projects.
  • Assist in developing survey plans and methodologies for more complex assessments and ensure best practices are followed.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior surveyors or trainees, sharing knowledge on survey techniques and industry standards.

Survey Equipment and Technology:

  • Operate and maintain advanced survey equipment, including sonar, laser scanners, and other diagnostic tools, ensuring they are calibrated and functioning properly.
  • Stay current on advancements in marine surveying technologies and tools, and suggest improvements to enhance survey efficiency and accuracy.

Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure that all surveys are conducted in accordance with local, national, and international regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive survey reports for internal stakeholders, clients, and regulatory authorities.
  • Support the preparation of regulatory documentation required for compliance or permitting processes.

Project Support and Documentation:

  • Provide input into project planning and budgeting, helping to manage timelines and resources effectively.
  • Ensure that all survey documentation is organized and properly stored for future reference.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports and presentations for project updates, management, or clients.

  • Ensure the thorough and accurate surveying of marine assets, identifying key areas of concern and risks that may affect their operational lifespan or safety.

Data Accuracy and Analysis:

  • Focus on the collection, organization, and analysis of survey data to draw insightful conclusions and provide actionable recommendations.

Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Work with cross-functional teams, including engineers, contractors, and regulatory bodies, to ensure smooth project execution and the successful implementation of survey recommendations.

Continual Professional Development:

  • Keep up to date with the latest industry trends, survey technologies, and best practices to enhance personal expertise and contribute to the team’s success.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications or coursework in marine surveying or related disciplines are a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in marine surveying, including conducting detailed surveys of marine structures, vessels, and offshore facilities.
  • Experience with various survey tools and equipment (e.g., sonar, GPS, laser scanning) and their application in the field.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting technical reports and survey documentation.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of marine surveying techniques and practices, including visual inspections, structural integrity assessments, and data collection using specialized equipment.
  • Familiarity with marine engineering principles and the condition assessment of vessels and infrastructure.
  • Proficient in survey data processing and analysis, with the ability to use relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS, survey software).
  • Knowledge of regulatory and safety standards relevant to marine infrastructure and vessel inspections.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify key issues during surveys and provide accurate assessments.
  • Effective communication skills for preparing reports, presenting findings, and interacting with clients and internal teams.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to troubleshoot issues in the field and suggest actionable solutions.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):

  • Certification in marine surveying (e.g., from the International Institute of Marine Surveying or similar).
  • Health and safety certifications (e.g., Offshore Safety, First Aid).
  • Any relevant certifications related to specific marine equipment or surveying technology (e.g., sonar systems, underwater robotics) are an advantage.
