Job Title: Marine Instructor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Mid-Level Marine Instructor to deliver comprehensive training programs in marine operations, safety, and regulatory compliance. In this role, you will develop and conduct training sessions, mentor students, and ensure that trainees acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in maritime environments. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in marine operations, strong instructional abilities, and a deep understanding of international maritime regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Training & Instruction:

  • Develop and conduct classroom and hands-on training in marine navigation, vessel operations, emergency procedures, and maritime safety regulations.
  • Utilize advanced teaching methodologies, simulations, and practical exercises to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Ensure that trainees fully understand operational procedures, emergency protocols, and industry best practices.

Curriculum Development & Course Improvement:

  • Design and update training programs in alignment with industry standards and technological advancements.
  • Develop instructional materials, presentations, and assessments tailored to various learning levels.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and make recommendations for continuous improvement.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure training content aligns with international maritime regulations, including IMO, SOLAS, and STCW standards.
  • Enforce safety protocols during practical training sessions to instill a strong safety culture among trainees.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with maritime industry safety standards.

Student Assessment & Mentorship:

  • Assess trainees through theoretical exams, practical demonstrations, and simulation exercises.
  • Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to enhance trainees’ professional growth.
  • Track student progress and provide reports to management regarding performance and skill development.

Operational Support & Equipment Management:

  • Oversee the setup, maintenance, and proper use of training equipment, simulators, and maritime tools.
  • Ensure that practical training sessions are conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Collaborate with senior instructors and training managers to improve the overall training environment.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Training & Development: Deliver effective training programs to prepare students for maritime careers.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to international maritime laws and safety protocols.
  • Curriculum Enhancement: Continuously improve training materials and methodologies.
  • Student Mentorship: Guide and assess trainees to enhance their knowledge and practical skills.
  • Equipment & Operational Oversight: Manage training tools and resources for optimal learning outcomes.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
  • Marine instructor certification or relevant teaching qualification is preferred.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in maritime operations, marine engineering, or training.
  • Previous experience as a deck officer, marine engineer, or instructor is highly desirable.

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of ship handling, navigation systems, emergency response, and maritime safety.
  • Familiarity with marine simulators, vessel operations, and training equipment.
  • Knowledge of international maritime laws, including SOLAS, STCW, and IMO regulations.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and teaching skills.
  • Ability to engage and mentor trainees with different learning needs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work collaboratively with other instructors and departments.

Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):

  • STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping) certification.
  • IMO Model Instructor Certification.
  • Marine First Aid & Emergency Response Training.
  • Train-the-Trainer (TOT) certification.
